Hehe since I am someone with big hands, the Desert Eagle works well with my grip. I can shoot it single handed without any issues, and the weight isn't to outrageous, but then again I do work out a lot :D. The recoil is tame on the desert eagle, compared to the same cartridge fired out of a revolver. Obviously the firearm isn't for everyone, especailly thoes with small hands :)

Hah, I bought a .50 in 1998 thinking that surely they'd stop making such a thing momentarily, and it would be the new Auto Mag in terms of collector value. Nope. They're not scarce, except maybe in .41 mag. If you buy one NIB, be prepared to wait 25 years to get your full retail purchase price back out of it.
.50 AE is mildly entertaining to shoot. The Speer 325 gr Lawmans make a hell of a thump, and cost (well, 10 years ago) over a buck a round. $25 for 20. It will impress your friends, and is very interesing if you have more money than sense. All any of my college buddies from Yonkers want to shoot is my .50 DE. I make them buy the ammo. If I were considering the future value as of now, I'd go with basically any other option. Wildey, AMT Auto-Mag, Grizzley, any S&W .41 mag, FA .454, etc. A .50 DE is a really terrible investment at the moment. They're not about to stop turning them out any time soon.

THis makes the desert E. a very expensive toy? I have been to there web page , if you look at the problem part they tell you that they are plaged with problems! i think big calibers should be left to revolvers

I've shot the .50AE DE. It's recoil isn't bad... it is horrible! Oh, the initial kick isn't bad at all - it's that twist of your wrist as the gas-operated behometh hits the backstop and the rotational inertia is suddenly transferred to your wrist. In my case, my carpal tunnel problems forced me to trade away my old friend, my first-ever DA revolver... a 7.5" scoped .454 Casull Super Redhawk. It's recoil was all back - and a lot more - yet it didn't hurt. That 'twist' of the DE is horrible!

As to future value... a young chap bought one last year and amassed dies, bullets, brass, and >100 rounds of commercial loaded ammo, having shot one box (20 rounds - and I shot several of those!). He sold it earlier this week - the buyer resold ALL of the goodies and the 'LN' DE for $650, undoubtedly at a profit, to another friend the very next day - that's half the cheapest new DE price I know of locally - and, it came with all of those goodies!

If you want a big thump, go with a SRH in .454 Casull. You can easily buy >2,000 ft-lb KE ammo - at $1/round - or shoot .45 Colt 'Cowboy' plinkers, too - just clean the chambers well before trying those .454's.

if you have big hands, a Desert Eagle should be no problem. great for hunting... i heard it makes ragged holes in paper at 100 yrds, open/iron sights. make sure to wear ear protection...

I've shot one in 44. I wasn't all that impressed. The particular one I shot wasn't as accurate (with the factory loads the guy had) as my Smith revolvers. The safety is awful, real clumsy to work. I'd hate to have to rely on a DE for a self protection gun, from 2 or 4 legged varmints. I thought the gun was a real clunker compared to a revolver.

The DE is a fun toy. I wouldn`t mind having one in .44 Mag. (relatively cheap ammo). I`ve put quite a few rounds down range with them in .357 and .44. They`re pretty good shooters. I didn`t find the recoil at all objectionable. A 629 or DW .445 would be a lot more practical though. I`ve had my eye out for a .445 DW for years actually. As for magnum autos and their big grips the DE sure has one of the biggest. I have pretty big hands and they`re still a little large for comfort. The LAR Grizzly`s grip is long (front to back) but slim and more comfy to me than the DE. The AMT Auto Mag IV/V have fairly small grips for their calibers but funky grips. My choice is the original .44 Auto Mag,for it`s power level it`s amazingly svelt. 20oz. lighter than a DE and the grip isn`t much larger than a Beretta 92 (just longer). Compared to my custom S.Blackhawk .44Mag. it shoots really soft too. Yeah they`re expensive but they`re a sound investment. Of course it could be argued that you could buy a DW .445 SM AND a 629 AND a bunch of ammo for the cost of a decent .44 AM. :scrutiny: Marcus

Did I hear someone say Grizzly ?
These little babies in 44 Mag are t o u g h to find.
They're like a 1911 on steroids. That's the easiest way to put it.
The grip is the same width as a standard 1911 frame. It's just longer.
