What are you're opinions on the desert eagle? (If you've fired one)
I have big hands, so grips aren't a problem.

Also, what bullets would you reccomend for a .44 mag handload?

Big, heavy, finicky, fun to shoot, and you'll gain cred with 15-year-old "Matrix" fans and Airsoft freaks. :)

The Deagle is definately fun for range..."plinking"...but it can get costly. Not only $1000+ for the gun itself, but the .50AE ammo is about $25 a box.

From what I've experienced with the rental Deagle at our Indoor Range, they are also succeptible to stove-pipes/jamming from limp wristing the gun. Personally, I'd stick with a nice 1911 in either .45 or 10mm...

My dad has one in .50 AE. I'm not really a huge fan. It's fun every once in a while, but then it goes right back in its box. I think some cartridges were just made for revolvers, it just requires to much bulk in an autoloader.

It has been accurate, but expensive to feed, often finicky about its ammo and cleanliness needs, and difficult to comfortably wield.

But like they said, it'll win respect from the Matrix folks!

Are you looking solely for a range plinker? A pistol for self-defense needs at all? To help with marksmanship abilities? I only ask because aside from cool factor and 'the big boom', I think there are better/more economical choices. (Not that one needs a better reason than a big boom and a cool look to buy a pistol!)

Best of luck, hope you enjoy it much if you get your hands on it!

one of the big reasons is because it truly fills my hand. I have never held another pistol that fit perfectly.

also, 8+1 of .44 mag sounds really good.

don't worry, if I wanted a CC or SD pistol I'd probly get an XD .45, but that's not what this is for.

The only Desert Eagle I've had first hand experience with is my son in laws .357.

It likes its loads hot. Full power loads shoot accurately and reliably. Lesser loads shoot accurately.

Anything but a full power load has a tendency for the slide to fail to strip the next round from the magazine. Other than that, it is a fine gun. If I were to buy one for myself, I think I would get a .44. A .50 would be interesting, but the ammo (or brass) cost would be a factor.

I've shot the .357 magnum eagle alot. It does seem to prefer hotter loads. Lighter loads did cause it to malfunction. I think they are great range fun and conversation pieces mainly. I owned a .50AE one for a few months, put about 200rnds through it. I did carry it on a few occasions just for sheer novelty (it came with a shoulder rig). Way too big IMO for that though. After the novelty wore off, I found it just sitting in the case. The .50 never malfunctioned on me, but I did keep it spotless and well lubricated. I miss mine sometimes. If nothing else, havin one is kinda cool! :D

I love mine! Shoots very accurately and I have not had any issues with it at all. I have the .44 which I think is the best one to have, .357 is too small a bullet for such a huge gun and the 50AE is too expensive. Only issues I have seen with a DE was when we tried to put .38's out of a bud's .357, wouldn't even open the slide (but then we didn't expect it to).

There are 10rd .44 mags out there also:D

Ammo does need to be hot (not a bad thing in the DE). For the handloading question, be sure to put only jacketed stuff in it due to the gas system being stopped up (and big problems) if you shoot lead in it.

For $600 I think it's a great buy. A very .44 you can shoot all day.

I would not own a Desert Eagle as my only pistol. However, if you already have a 1911, Glock, AK, and AR, what the hell. I prefer the .50ae. Outdoor Marksman has okay prices on ammo. Here is mine:

To think any of you would buy a DE that wasnt a .50 and/or chrome or Gold plated is proposturous! :neener: If I bought one it would be towards the end of my collection unless I got some cray deal on one. Fun as hell to shoot though!

Not good for CCW.
Good for range practice, it will definitely tell you if you have any propensity to flinch.

Finicky to feed, especially with certain loads. I believe IMI's website has a list of recommended ammunition.
Never feed it lead bullets, it will get into the gas port on the barrel.

Its great for pin shooting, nothing else will really knock the pins down.

You're one of the few that like the grip size, my only issue was why DE never checkered the front strap to help the grip....one change I had done to mine, made a huge difference.

These are excellent shooters and extremely accurate. Great for handgun hunting.

Would suggest 240 or 300 grain bullets for reloading....the stiffer the load the better the action works.

I shot a Desert Eagle 44 in the past it was fun . Also the recoil is not bad because it's heavy . It's alot milder than shooting a S&W model 29

I know a few people that have them and they have let me shoot them. I shot the .50 cal version and it makes a big boom! Most of them jam quite often. It is not very reliable and the grip is stupid huge. As a matter of fact, I didn't think it was all that much much fun.

If I got one, it would be the .44mag version since ammo is cheaper and can be reloaded from my old stock. $600 is not a bad price so I say go ahead and get it and if you don't like it, you won't lose any money if you decide you want to sell. If the price was $800, I would say pass. I would try and talk the seller down as much as you can though. $500 and I would snap it up.
