Ok I know this thread is probably going to get a lot of people convincing me otherwise but I think I'm gonna to take my military buddy up on his offer to sell me his eagle for $375. It is chambered in the .50ae round and I wanted to know how hard it was to convert to .45 or 9mm so I can practice with it a lot more often

You'd have to find a barrel and mags that would work with the new round. The barrel would more than likely have to be custom and cost you, mags on the other hand may be impossible to find/make.

$375!:what:

You sure its not a Jericho? If it really is the big gun than buy it! Thats a really good price. If you don't like it, you can resell it for 3 times what you paid for it. You can't convert it to 9mm or 45ACP though, only to .44 Magnum and .357
Magnum.

Hmmm, $375? I'd certainly want to function test it first. That price is hard to imagine. If the gun has fired lead or semi-jacketed ammo the gas system could have become clogged and you would pretty much have a $375 paper weight.

That said, if the guy is your buddy that probably isn't the case and you might have an incredible deal. He might just not be able to afford to shoot it. Other barrels in other calibers is a great option for more economical shooting. Just remember that required ammo is fully copper jacketed, even the rear of the bullet.

Yea going to shoot it before I buy it today. If I do get it I'm not letting it go since it'll be my first big boy pistol(Jennings J25 is only pistol T.T) Getting it in .357 interests me, that a bit more feasible than the otherr options?

You need to find out if it's a Mark I, Mark VII, or Mark XIX. (1,7,19)
If it's a Mark I, you can't swap calibers, I don't remember if the Mark VII can be changed, the Mark XIX can be changed.
Find out before you buy!
The conversion to .44 mag is fairly painless, just barrel and mags IIRC.
.357 mag requires a new bolt, barrel, mags and recoil springs. ($$$)

I would buy it for that, flip it for 900 then buy a useable gun.....I hate to say it but the DE in 50ae is just horrid for anything but bragging rights to (usually), non gun people. I have also heard even from those who have them they are bad for reliability. And as far as I know, you can't interchange calibers.

To swap between .50 AE and .44 Magnum you just swap barrels and magazines from a kit you can buy off MR's website. .357 Magnum requires a new barrel, magazine, and bolt.

$375 is an amazing price.

Last time I was tempted by a DE was at a WAC gun show a few years back. It was $1499, and came with three slides in .50 AE, .44 mag, and .357 mag.

I didn't have the money. That, and it was in this nauseating semi-gloss gray finish that looked just like plastic model sprue.

I would have absolutely no interest in paying normal prices for a DE but would hit one for $375 like a fat kid after doughnuts. For your first "real" pistol, I would either flip it and buy a "real" handgun - a usable one - or just spend the $375 for a real (again, realistic) handgun. That and tell your friend - if he is really a friend - to sell it for the real value (>$750-800 easily.)

How would I find out about the Mark differences? Shot it today and had a blast, I've known this guy a while and I am a gun person so the DE really got my attention. 44 Mag conversions don't seem bad so I'll probably end up converting it for plinking and then have the .50ae for showing off. Real clean gun inside and out but he's just clearing out his gun stock to his Barret 50 cal and M1911. Even if it isn't able to convert I think I'll still get it because it really caught my fancy :)
