Ruger claims that it’s polymer frames are designed to flex, thereby reducing perceived recoil.

It's also pretty well established that more weight also reduces felt recoil.

So what about a gun with a flexible polymer frame but extra lead weights added in specific places in order to maximize the shoot-ability of a gun? A gun with good ergonomics that was built this way could possibly allow those sensitive to recoil to use more gun than they otherwise could. also, since there could be more flexibility about where the weight is on the pistol it would be easier to design a firearm with good balance - maybe even customizable balance.

The tradeoff would be less durability in a heavy gun but some would welcome this if it meant they could 'kick it up a notch' in cartridge.

Yeah, porting could help too but I worry that it could screw up my night vision when I need it most. Not saying it couldn't be an option for this design, though.

weights

You can't use lead, environmental issues you know.

As far as hanging weights on the pistol this is an old practice with some types of target pistols. It's most commonly done on target 22's. Also one of the reasons for bull barrels vs pencil barrels. The bull barrel is a typical way of adding weight to a revolver. Witness the S&W M29 in 44 mag with a bull barrel vs the M24 in 44 Special with a pencil barrel. Ruger, Browning, et al, 22 pistols are avaible with different weights of barrel.

You can't hang lead weights on a pistol because of lead poisoning? I don't get it - you can shoot lead bullets. I didn't think lead poisoning was an issue unless it got in the air without being ventilated or got ingested.

lead

You aren't supposed to "get it". It's a matter of political correctness.

(It's a feeble attempt at satire.)

This thread has made me think of ways to attach some sort of weight to my Glock 22's rail. A VFG wit storage compartment would be perfect if it were not for that stupid NFA. What else is cheap, compact, and clips on to a rail?

Vertical Fore Grip.

Fairly common on AR15's these days, where it attaches to the quad rail and allows more control during rapid fire. You can find the nylon ones at gunshows fairly cheap, where as the heavier aluminum ones are around $30 bucks. Just be prepared to file to fit if you get the nylon one.
