Buying my first house :D and closing in April. However, with the way the house is laid out, the best location for the home office is in the basement, where there is a nicely finished family room. I'm leaning towards a .357 (already own one, might as well stick to a common caliber) and this http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=653291
I like that I could leave a revolver loaded and unattended forever, and yet it will still function.
Those who keep a 'desk gun', what did you choose and why?

I installed a quick access safe for my mom near her desk. She keeps a .38 K-frame in there.

I keep a Makarov near my desk, just because I already had it and I know it's reliable.

Think about how you want to secure or store the firearm. The size limitations of your method will dictate the size. Since you already have the .357, it would make a dandy choice. Just find a method to store it.

If I had my choice and enough room to secure it, I'd go with a pump 12 guage shotgun.

I will defintely use what I've got for the time being, but I only own two handguns. When I leave the house with my carry piece, I've gotta have one in the bedroom for the wife. Oh, darn...an excuse to buy more guns. Maybe I'll get her to finally pick one out for herself, and keep my Security Six in the basement desk.
I agree, a shotgun or longgun would also be a good choice, given the right way to keep it secure down there.

Our Super Redhawk always goes into the desk drawer when I'm spending the day writing - .44 magnum, and two speedloaders.

The 12ga coach gun is by the door.

Have used a variety of firearms.
Mostly K frame revolvers , bought Six of these to "compliment" the business setting .

I use these handgun safes as they do not require a battery, the combo is easily changed. Works for vehicle as well.

That said , got a buddy we did some "remodling". There is a handgun or two, or three, and the "Closet" for the routers and stuff ...well there are two of these for the computer, data cabling, etc. Lets just say one doesn't have Plenium and routers..."Pump Cabling" he has though. :D

IN the walls 4 ft from floor there are steel plates...."firewall"...of sorts. :)

Yea, that's what I'm using and recommending to friends and relatives. With practice (and a good combination on the Simplex lock), you can unlock and draw from one of these very fast.

DMK

Yes not only desks, but great for vehicles as per some state req's. On a trip traveling through an anti-state, place for valuables on a trip. Some folks use when they go to a gym...

Not just for guns. A friend put /bolted one in his Uncle's "safe closet" while in a Nursing home. Nobody knew the combo to get his valuables...just in case " that closet must have opened itself" dealie occured.

Perscription meds around children at home...kids can figure out anything. Bolted to a secure inner drawer is where one mom keeps her meds out of curious mouths.

Have a Colt LW Commander and a Glock 17L at the computer desk. The Colt has three 8 round mags with it and the Glock has three 33 round mags with it. :D Lots of fire power if the bad guys show up while I am web surfing.
