The stuff is very similar to "HYSOL" brand 934BA or 917BA or "REN" 2 part paste. (or "J-B Weld".
)
Your friendly local airport or aircraft annual shop will be a ready source.
I personally prefer HYSOL brand 934 BA ( part "A" and part "B") I don't know why it is called "BA" at the end of the part number. It will replace DEVCON or REN for most potting applications; with a plus - it flows excellent with a heat gun.
I do know it (DEVCON) works well on USAF planes on leading edges, I just almost REFUSE to use it - I prefer actual sheetmetal repairs to aerospace "bondo"
Simple paste wax applied to any surface you don't want it to stick to, or some teflon spray as a mold release.

Kiwi shoe polish in "neutral" is the best release agent. Devcon 10110 can be ordered online and shipped if not available local.

For bedding a barrel - I'd say yes.
