I have always wanted one of these and I just scored one from a fellow board member. It is my dream rifle. I think Dean's ability surpasses normal craftsmanship and is more like a work of art. I've never seen a hi-res pic of Dean's work on the internet before, with the exception of a website that a guy named Swampy used to have up a few years back, so I thought I'd post these for Dean's and your edification. Now that I have a DGR Garand, I can die a happy man. My work is done here. ;)

All the information for these is linked from my web page that I posted. Dean is selling a complete rifle like this for around $1500. This build probably ran about $1100 in parts/labor but Danish Garands with VAR barrels are no longer available from the CMP. I spoke to Dean's wife about 3 months ago and she said that Dean is finding fewer and fewer USGI parts from which to make his complete rifles that he sells.

I've looked at DGR several times in the past 6 months. I thought I could get it done for $850. But not with that gorgeous stock.

Did you get a new bbl? Which one? How does it shoot?

The rifle came from the CMP with a Danish VAR barrel. The VAR barrels were made by the Danes and installed on some of their Garands. They have a reputation for good accuracy. Dean gauged this VAR barrel at 0.5 muzzle erosion so it did not need to be replaced at all.

To be honest, I just got this rifle two days ago from forum member Pepper. I'll report back once I try it out, but I expect it will shoot better than my eyes can see.

I had one restored by DGR as well. Only thing I can say is incredible work. His attention to detail is incredible. Mine looks perfect.

Geojap - congrats and welcome to the family of proud DGR owners...

Nice wood!
you said nice wood. heh heh heh!

But seriously, geojap, Dean's does excellent work. You'll be as happy with its function as you are with its looks. Two guys I shoot matches with have Garands that Dean has restored. They are beautiful guns and they shoot very well. They both have plain walnut stocks though and aren't as nice as the furniture on yours.

Considering what you see at gun shows in the $1000 neighborhood, you did very well.

:(
Rifles like that are too nice to shoot. Now don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one, but I'd be a wreck shooting it off of a concrete shooting bench. Kinda reminds me of Gibson Custom Shop guitars... we'd get a few in at the store once in a while, and they'd get scratched just from belt buckles.

Nice rifle! :)

If she shoots half as good as she looks you will be more than a happy man.;)

Nice M 1 Garand yours is well worth adding to any collection, its a keeper.:D
