Yes his gun HAS been returned.

Yep, showed the "receipt" he got (insisted on) when it was taken and retrieved it without incident.
From later comments, it sounds like the PD still tried one more time for "documentation" but he once again told them it wasn't necessary for the gun's return.

Federal lawsuit filed
