About 5 days ago, my buddy calls me and asks if I wanted to buy his pump .22 for $50, because he lost his job and really needed the money. I said no, but I half jokingly said that if he ever wants to get rid of his immaculate Remington 722 bolt action .222 to get ahold of me. Five minutes later, he calls back and says "Are you serious about the .222?" I told him absolutely, but I couldn't really afford it right now, thinking that he would ask for a few hundred at least. He asked me how much I have. I told him $50. He said "I'm an idiot for doing this, but I really need the money, so I'll do it for that if you buy it today." I was out the door and on my way over there faster than you can say "deal".
So now I have a 50+ year old Remington 722 in .222 Remington that shoots .5 MOA(No, really. I am not exaggerating.) with a Bushnell Sportview 3.5-10x45 scope... for $50. The gun looks brand new. Aside from a scratch on the stock, and an extra set of holes for sling swivels, it's in nearly perfect condition. I am dead serious about the accuracy of this thing, too. The first time I shot it last summer, I shot a 4 leaf clover into a quarter at 100 yards. I still have the quarter around here somewhere. I'll post a picture if I can find it.
I'll take some pictures of the gun later tonight or tomorrow and put them up here. If anyone has any information or experience with these guns, please share. All I know is that this particular model was made from 1958 to 1961, it had a long action version called the 721, and that it was the predecessor of the Remington 700. I'm sure it's worth something, but I don't see myself getting rid of it. I like it way too much.
