I popped into my local gunstore today to check on some 7.62X39 ammo. He overcharges for everything but he's also the closest to me so I sometimes check out what he's got. He had Sapsan for $5 a box which I left sitting on the shelf. But as I wandered around I came across a Marlin 336 lever in 35 remington with a scope and sling. Not a scuff on it. Tag said $350 which I assume was an attempt at humor so I asked him how much. $275. Hmmm.

I've been looking for a 35 lever for a while now and this one looked pretty nice. Overall I'd say the finish is 90-95%. There is a tiny little scuff on the edge of the front sight cover about 1mm around and a trace amount of discoloration to the black cover at the base of the hand grip. The bore is 100% and looks like it has never been shot. There is no safety.

It came with a Bushnell Sportview scope already attached and an ancient box of shells. The store owner said the guy who traded it in a couple of days ago said he bought it new and put less than a box of shells through it, and he believed him. The dude brought in a box with three shells left and a full box, and I got the full box.

So I bought it. $275 plus tax and NICs. Rifle, scope, and old box of shells. Serial number is 211229XX. Pics attached. So did I get taken for a ride? Should I have passed it on by? Or did I get as good a deal as I hope I got?

Forgive the pics but my camera is the suxxor.

Since you said "I've been looking for a 35 lever for a while ...", I'd say you got a darn good deal!

$275 for the rifle alone is a good deal. Not a spectacular deal perhaps, but good since it looks ike the standard 20" carbine. IMO, the scope doesn't add all that much to it.

Prices on these guns vary hugely by location.... down here it would have likely brought $200 with the scope and ammo. but where you are could'a been a bargain... I've bought many 30-30s in near new condition for 125-150 bucks.

the 35s run just a little more.... add the scope and ammo a little more yet.

Pre-safety's can fetch a bit more, if the seller's aware of what he's got. It sounds like a solid deal. It certainly looks like you got some fine furniture on it, to boot.

It looks like you got a good deal. But the scope mounts are on backwards. Watch your eye brow if you shoot it that way!
