Did you teach your daughters to shoot?

Taught my daughter to shoot. Then she dropped my K98 muzzel down on concrete. Taught my grand daughter to shoot. Now she wants my retro AR15. Good thing i didn't teach them to shoot my lugers.

My oldest daughter was off for summer break from med school. We did quite a bit of shooting while she was down. She fell in love with a Kimber .45 of mine and wound up taking it back with her. :)

I started teaching my daughter to shoot when she was 4 years old, the same age that my father began teaching my brothers, sisters and I to shoot.

Yes and she out shoots me. If you own guns I think everyone in the house over the age of about 10 should know how to shoot and clean them.

i havent taught my daughter to shoot, and i wont

Actually I have others teach my girls to shoot. I taught them the basics, but there are some really good instructors out there who do a fantastic job I think my girls prefer to have someone else teaching them instead of their dad.

I do clap and cheer when they bust a clay or make a target in the high 90's

At about 6, my daughter started helping me clean my guns. I used the opportunity to: (a) teach her safe gun handling; and (b) teach her a little about how they work. Within a year or two, we took her out with a BB gun. Unfortunately, she didn't follow directions very well, so we had to cut that short. By 8 or so, she was ready to have another go with the BB gun.

The next year, at about age 9, she & I decided that she was ready to move up to a .22LR. We took her out to a buddy's house. My buddy is also an NRA Youth Instructor. He has a suppressed 10/22 that he uses for training, and he let her shoot that. I made myself scarce so as not to interfere with his instruction, and just hung out loading magazines for her. She went through about 300 rounds of .22LR that day. Then my buddy dragged out a suppressed Remington 700 in .300 Whisper that he also uses to teach the young'uns to shoot. THAT was the one she really, REALLY enjoyed. She's a pretty good shot, too.

The next year, she discovered nail polish and hasn't been back to the range.

because i dont have a daughter ;-)

id teach her to shoot if i had one though.. i teach women i know how to shoot, friends, family, i'll teach any of them willing to learn.. as i always tell them, guns are an equalizer with no equal

Yep oldest is pretty good and has her own collection started, youngest is ok but is more recoil sensative.

I go with the last posts --- when mine were 6 or 7 they would go "hunting" with me (" a walk in the woods with a gun") and when they hit 9 we started in 4HSS, mainly to get them into the safety aspect. I started out working with them but soon saw how much better they reacted with other instructors, so I let others take over, took the training and did the same for other folks's kids. I've stayed with it since 1990, and 4 out of my 5 still enjoy shooting, a lot. The 5th (a daughter) is sorta neutral but will take her friends with me to the range when she's home; she shoots but doesn't seem to get the thrill from it that her international friends do.

Not yet, she is four and loves to help with anything in the gun room, particular favourites are sticking a patch on a jag and reloading 357 Mag.

I have my eye on a 452 for her when she is a bit older, as lovely as she is, I'm not about to trust her quite yet with a rifle.

My daughter just turned 5 and i have bought her a "rifle" for this upcoming Christmas. Thing is though that it is bolt action airsoft rifle (spring-not gas). I figured this would be great with teaching her proper safety / muzzle discipline...etc. Someday i will move her up to a 22.

My oldest has expressed interest and I think she is ready, but it hasn't happened yet. We had intended to take her down to the in-laws this last summer and have my father-in-law teach her right, but he passed away suddenly last spring and taking care of my mother-in-law took priority. We are experiencing some Indian Summer here though, so maybe I still have a little time yet.

I had two sons. Helped several of their girlfriends get into shooting. Then their wives. Now I'm starting with grand daughters...four of them. :D

Things get interesting at the range.

Never had any children of my own----but have taught several girlfriends and their children how to shoot/reload. For that matter I have helped many others as well. Any one that shows responsibility and interest will be given my attention and knowledge. Every person that learns from one of us is going to understand why we all need firearms in our lives and the ability to handle them safely. That's a win-win to me.;)

These are great posts! I started my daughter on airsoft when she was about 2 1/2. Now she is four and a great shot with a red-dot. I have pink Rascal with her name on it and this is the year we will switch to the .22.

I started both girls around 6 years old: Megatrange.jpg

The oldest one is in college and wants to get her ccw when she turns 21. The youngest one is 16 and can shoot a tick off a coons arse with a rifle, but has taken an interest in handguns... and is quite good.

This is her shooting some pretty hot hunting rounds out of the .357

It's been a long while and my daughter is now a grown up married lady with her own daughter, but she remembers how to shoot. This being Nazi Jersey, I won't comment further. Who knows who monitors these boards.
