The POS thread got me thinking ... I had a Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded .... Could not shot straight, even out of a rest. Dont know what the problem was ... soured me on 1911s for a while. So I traded it in at the store I bought it from for a CZ85 Combat ... best move I ever made (except marrying my wife) as it introduced me to CZs.

Have any POS sales/dumps worked out for you as well mine has for me?

About the closest thing to this I had was a Golan .40 SW. It wasn't a POS, but I found that it rubbed me the wrong way, so I traded it for an SW99. Got all my money back out of the transaction and only paid $250 for the S&W. I like the S&W much better.

Not necessary a POS but I was not happy with a used Smith & Wesson model 629 that was bought at my local gun store. They took in a used S&W model 19 that looked unfired and I traded the 629 even for it. They asked me if that was ok, since the 629 was a higher priced handgun. I was happy then and most pleased after shooting the model 19.

I have three POS handguns in my safe (two say "Springfield Armory" on them).

And there they'll sit: I'm not going to foist junk off on an unsupsecting person who may need it to protect his family or himself.

I swapped two POS for two keepers!

I swapped a RAP 401 for a S&W 642 and I swapped a MEGA POS Kel-Tec P-32 for a used Beretta 21A. I took a bath on both of my POS guns to get decent ones but I am happy since now I have good guns that will last and I like to shoot.

There is a saying about stuff like that. Something like it is more expensive to buy junk than to buy quality. So true. If I had it all to do over again, there would be a lot of guns I would never have bought. I am gald I have been around the block so to speak because that is how you learn. Before I started surfing the gun forums, it was all trial and error, now I can avoid some mistakes by learning from others. I still get a POS once in a while but at least I am not flying totaly blind now.

Traded a Century Arms L1A1 back right after they started putting those thumbhole socks on 'em. Deffinately not a POS, but I didn't care for the gun and wanted to try an AR 15 - which was what I traded for! Guy I traded was of the opposite opinion - wanted a .308 battle rifle and disliked his AR... We both did well! :neener:

I picked up a HiPoint 380 a while back. Big and bulky, it worked but I didn't have a good use for it and I didn't like it all that much. Went back to the store and saw an awesome looking little rifle in the rack. Traded in the pistol for the rifle and 2 boxes of ammo. And that's how I got my Mosin Nagant M44. :D

LarryW: Just curious, why are your Springers a "POS"? What sort of problems do they have? I ask, because most 1911's can be easily and inexpensively cured of any problems.

Traded an AMT Govt. (OK, I won't go there) for cash and a Colt Mark IV. Did some customizing on it, and it's still my favorite piece almost 20 years later.

Traded a Taurus Millenium for cash and a G26. The Taurus wasn't exactly a POS, but it didn't fit my hand properly (kept inadvertantly hitting the mag release), and the G26 is just what I was looking for when I bought the Taurus, evidently.

My first centerfire pistol was a S&W 669. It is there high capacity shorty 9mm with the 12 shot double column magazine. I fired off a couple thousand rounds in it and could never get a "group" out of it and was getting very discouraged with handguns. I went to the range one day and happened to get a lane next to a guy with a stainless Colt Gold Cup in 45 ACP. I was watching him make nice small groups on his target. I mentioned the accuracy issue with my gun and he let me try out his 45. All my shots were in the black and I was sold. I sold my 669 to a friend at work and bought a stainless Colt Gold Cup. The muzzle flip and blast from the short barrel on the 669 turned out to be too much a jump from the Ruger MKII 22 I had before, where the light loaded 45 ACP was very easy to adapt to.

I traded a POS Bushmaster XM15E2S (yes! that's right it was a POS :fire: ) and a Glock 22 for a NIB SA M1 Garand. I really, really like that Garand. It's not my favorite rifle (my favorite is a Win 94 in 45 Colt) but it runs a real close 2nd. :)
