My dad has an old RCBS with dies for various calibers, but not 9mm luger. For those who are experienced with this system, do i have to buy Rockchucker RCBS specific dies, or are dies generally universal? As the title states,I am a beginner in the reloading field and i know nothing about it yet, so I implore you sages to bestow much wisdom unto me.....

All modern reloading presses made in the last half century use standard 7/8" x 14 TPI dies. Any brand will work.

Shell holders are also all the same from the various companies.

What ever brand of dies you get for pistol I would suggest carbide dies. You can skip lubing the brass. And my way of thinking as for the Rockchucker you can't go wrong. I started out with one about 40 years ago and I still use it for rifle reloading. But, for pistol (and shoot more pistol than rifle) I advance to progressive. But starting out you want to go single stage and get the fundamentals down pat. You will enjoy reloading just as much as shooting.

I use RCBS, Lee, Lyman, Redding, and Hornady dies in my Rockchucker. You should be albe to use pretty much any currently manufactured dies.
