Does anyone know the difference? They appear quite similar to me.

One's marked as a Colt Sporter, and the other is marked as a Colt AR-15 with the for LE/GOV use only language on the receiver.

What dealer has both in stock right now, which is cheaper there, and by how much?

No difference but the marking on the lower, most places that are selling both have the LE marked ones going for $100 more.

(The arguement will go something like "the LE marked ones were made in limited numbers" which might be true for 6940s, but needs 5-6 years for that to be true for 6920s)

Correct me if I'm wrong but are the SP6940's chambered in .223 while the LE6940 is chambered for 5.56? If the LE version is designed for 5.56 and SP .223 it would make the gun more valuable to me. I have not seen the markings on the SP but if anyone has I would like to know if the SP will shoot 5.56 without crossing a disclaimer. I know that the LE is a 5.56 gun.

The old SP receivers were marked .223, but the barrels (which are what matters) were the same 5.56 bbls. as in the LE guns, and they were marked accordingly. Not sure on the current SP rifles though.

The LE guns have been discontinued. The prices are going up on those. You should get one now while they are still available if you want the LE marking. I understand that the sporter and the LE guns are identical except for the markings.

Consider yourself corrected. You are wrong.
