difference in pre/post ban AR lowers.

many thanks to all of you that have helped with my numerous,goofy AR related questions,it's all been very helpful.
i just stumbed on a reference to a "post-ban lower". i knew about the suppressor situation with the uppers,but wasn't aware that there was a difference with the lowers as well. since i recently ordered one,i'm hoping the answer doesn't wreck my day !

I don't think there is any difference functionaly, besides the stamping/engraving on the receiver. Because of the difference on the stamping/engraving, it's classified as different so it's not on the banned list (yet)

As far as I know, there is no functional or mechanical difference. The difference is the date of manufacture - you couldn't put a pre-ban upper (with evil features like byonet lug or flashhider) on a post-ban lower.

Most of that pre-ban/post-ban stuff has gone away with the sunsetting of the Federal '94 AWB, but some states still have bans in place that make the pre/post ban monikers relevant.

I love the Baby Eagle -- it's one hell of a fun gun to shoot, but the new XD .45 has been stealing my time away from her for a while. I'll never sell the Baby Eagle, it's that good.

The only difference between a pre/post ban receiver is that the preban was built before 1994. It is still relevant since some states have laws that make the distinction.

iirc post ban colt lowers have a hardened insert affixed where the autosear would go to prevent dropins , lightning links , and other obscure felonys lol I could be wrong on this as i dont own one .

Yes, the Colts had some changes made to the actuall part to make it more difficult to swap out some parts. As far as I can tell this is to prevent illeagle conversions to full auto which has nothing whatsoever to do with the federal asault weapon ban but it came about at about the same time.Somewhere at or near this time period (1994) Colt redesigned the size of the takedown pins to make us all crazy.
As far as I know with all other mfgs the difference between pre and post ban is only the legal distinction of when the particular lower was made,sold,assembled as a whole gun with "evil"features . In my state (CT.) a Bushmaster stripped lower that was sold in 1990 and was not assembled untill 1995 is a post ban but a lower that was made and sold in 1992 as a complete rifle with more than 2 evil features will always be a preban. Can be difficult to prove. The only preban I own is a essential arms. Essential arms was sold off before 1994 and all sales were complete guns so I believe I am covered.
Ct. is an oddball in that our state AWB came in in several parts and although it mimicked the federal ban it never had restrictions for magazines so we got back that when the federal ban expired,several other states are not so fortunate. Your mileage may varry by state or county laws in your area.
The only advantage of seeking out a "pre ban" is if you are liveing in an area that has some sort of assualt weapons ban and you desire particular outlawed features on your gun (or that type of gun at all).
