There is an old post on this site specifying there is NO DIFFERENCE between WW Super and Winchester brass. That thread is closed so I can't post this to it, so I have started a new thread as there were no others. I didn't think it right to leave an archived thread stating what I now know to be incorrect information at this time, today.

The cases are DIFFERENT. You have to either have new or wet tumbled to see it. The cases are probably different Water Volumes to, I haven't measured it yet, I just sorted my cases into the two different types to start with.

The base of the case, inside the head, the WW Super is flat, the Winchester has a step/cup. And to make things more complicated, I have some "Winchester" stamped brass that ALSO has flat internal base. The attached photo of the two case's head stamps, BOTH those cases have flat internals.

If you are sorting 308 Winchester brass, even if they are not head stamped "WW Super", you need to look inside them and see what type they are.

When I first started loading Winchester brass back in the 1960's all the brass I was buying said WW Super and this continued for about 30 years. About 20 years ago the Winchester brass began having a Winchester head stamp. The early WW Super brass had a deeper stamp and the later Winchester stamp was not as well formed as noted in your pictures. Don't know when the process changed buy I used to be very protective of my WW Super brass because I shot some of my best groups with it. I still use Winchester brass for all of my shooting and if I still had both head stamps I would sort them separately. I don't make a habit of looking inside the cases so I wasn't aware of the difference in the case web.
