Think twice before buying WW brass

I've had no problem with the military WWC .223 brass. Also love the Win pistol brass in 9mm. Love their value packs of 100 rounds at 22.49 from wally world.
Its only a dollar or two more than they want for 100 bare brass...not the best ammo in the world, but at least you get to shoot it first for the cost of the brass...

What in the world is going on with Win. brass? It seems like lately every time I turn around I'm having problems with Winny brass.

China?

I haven't had any issues with the handgun brass at all, but then handgun brass is also a different world in many respects.

I love that, "China", ya buddy!

I bought brand new WIN 357 mag brass a while back, and about half of them wouldn't even fit in the shell holder. I won't say that I would never buy again, but they are definitely way down my list of preferences.

Done some googleing and found that this stuff may be coming from China.A joint venture between Olin, Winchester, and Luoyang copper.

Speedreed, now that you mention it, I bought a couple bags of new Winchester .357 mag. brass about a year ago, and much of it was extremely difficult to get into the shell holder as well, and some wouldn't fit at all.

Maybe if all of us having issues with it contacted them with our dissatisfaction, they might take more notice of quality?

Well, they've been in the process of moving their ammo production, probably to cut costs. Maybe the new employees aren't up to speed yet on setting up machines or doing QC work. Or maybe Olin is cutting costs in other ways too.

They already have to know they have a problem. The defects in the last Win brass that I bought shows that they either don't care or don't have a valid quality control process.

I just don't buy Win brass any more - there are other options...

I gave a friend of mine a bunch of once fired .300 WSM brass to reload for his brother in law, and we noticed a fairly high mortality rate of Winchester brass after one reload. Not impressed. Not sure if the chrome plating has something to do with it or the brass is too hard. But dig this next story. It was almost unbelievable.

A good friend of mine who is highly experienced reloader bought a brick of 5,000 large pistol Winchester primers. They required a scary amount of force to seat into not just Winchester but also any other brand of pistol case. He asked me to come over and look it over. I concluded that the primers were slightly oversized, and advised him to call Winchester which he did. They sent a box through some hokey shipping company, with a pickup date. After some tribulation, they finally picked it up. After a MONTH, he called them and asked what the deal was as he wanted his $$$$ back. LOL! THEY SAID THE PRIMERS WERE WITHIN MFG SPECS!!!!! And proceeded to nit pick with him! :barf: (Unbelievable) He was patient with them and asked for a refund, which they finally agreed to. All that fooling around, I still dont think they give a flip one way or another about customer service after that little ordeal. I steer clear of Winchester now. There are other options out there. I have loaded untold quantities of ammo, and never have I seen this before or the response that was generated. I was always a Winchester fanboy, but after this I have real reservations about it. YMMV

WSM, hard on cases, and reloaders, reloaders have a big problem dealing with the short magnums. Then one day Winchester sends someone oversized primers, did that make him happy? No, then there are all those reloaders running around hollering 'loose primers' with their large primer pockets.

I have always wanted oversized cases, do they make them? No! Problem, what would the reloading public do with an oversized case? So I am stuck with standard minimum length full length sized cases for oversized chambers.

I said I informed Richards Micro Fit stock I thought I could train Wood Peckers to do a better job, they did not say anything about living up to their name as in Micro Fit.

Winchester, same thing, 3+ years ago I sent one of their rifles back, the last work I had with them was instructions as to what they could do with the rifle, I informed them I was coming to pick the rifle up, all they had to do was lean the rifle in a corner near the front door. They returned the rifle in a new box.

Tell me what it is you want me to do about your problem with Winchester.
