I ask this on behalf of an “I have no use of computers†coworker.
What, if any, are the differences in quality and likelihood of wear between the run-of-the-mill British-made Enfield, the Canadian Longbranch and US manufactured Savage?
This buddy plans to make his monthly purchase of new C&R rifle, either a Spanish M1916 .308win small ring Mauser or an Enfield. We’re just not certain what justifies the price difference between the three makes of Enfield other than collector's value. He seems more than willing to spend the difference if there's a noticeable difference in condition or quality. He's primarily concerned with metal quality/workmanship/wear/damage as he knows a new stock (military configuration) can be had for $60 or so.
However, simply having a Savage-made Enfield marked “US Property†won’t convince him to shell out twice as much.
While we’re at C&R rifles, what's the scoop on the Spanish M1916? I've heard "rumors" of shoddy workmanship in the rechambering to .308win and of soft metal. However, we all know how much stock one should put in rumors.
Is this a solid value at $129 NRA G-VG? I’ve had my Enfield for some time now (bought when they were still $69 at your local hardware and department store), but one of these Spanish rifles might look nice in my closet.
