Different Missouri Bullet Hardness (18/15/12/10 BHN)

I've got 1400+ of the standard #5. What are you suggesting for hardness Brad? I've tried different powders and pressures. The best so far was 4.0 gr WSF OAL 1.150(for reliable feeding) and 875 fps. I've got 6 loaded up 3.4 of WST. I'm going to see how that works out, should have a bit more pressure and slower.

I'll whomp up 500 in 12 BHN when we finish out the run of that bullet. It should work well at that velocity.

Let us know how the IDP #5 in 12 BHN works. What pistol? I used HP-38 and had leading at the chamber end (XDM), changed to Unique and it pretty much went away. I just T/C enough to remove the flare and NO more. I got !k left so I'll wait for your response before I order more.

Early on, 70s-80s, I was under the impression that the nose of 'hard' SWC, shooting paper, would deform less on its two cushion bank shot into the chamber.

Not that I could tell any difference, but less deformation tends to lead to more accuracy potential.

Later, 80s-90s, I was under the impression that 'hard' lead SWC shooting steel, would be more likely to splatter side-to-side rather than bounce back.

I won't shoot steel at seven yards, but fast stepping jacketed bullets have been know to bounce back and 'tag' the shooter at 20 yards.

So, if thats for true, which is preferable?

Thanks,

salty

In my younger days of "foolish" shooting, I was "pegged" by a jacketed bullet that bounced back off a steel plate. Felt like someone slugged my rib cage with a baseball bat! It was about 15-20 yards. I tell you, I learned a valuable lesson that day - only shoot with friends who won't freak out ... geeeze ...:D

Maybe Brad could verify this but I do believe even his harder BHN 18 bullet will splatter when they hit a solid plate.

Maybe Brad can add Missouri "No bounce and tag you in the ribs" Safety Bullet. :D

Lead alloy bullets will splatter against steel a lot easier and better than jacketed or plated.

I recommend shooters use lead bullets when shooting steel.

Man that was a huge custom order. Hope the thr discount still applies.
Actually, Brad offers even higher percentage discount as the bullet count increases over 10,000-15,000+.

I am sure Powder Valley gets significantly higher discount on their million+ bullet orders which allows them to sell cheaper than Missouri Bullet website (and that's even less than with THR discount).

If you are ordering in large volume, most casters will work with you on price.
