As I posted in another thread I have been having a lot of trouble out of the keypad on my Cannon safe. I was wondering if it was possible to convert it to an old fashioned combo dial lock. Do any of you guys have any experience with this process? If you are I have a few questions. How much moola am I looking at for a quality lock and dial? What brand should I use? Is this something I could do on my own or does it require a locksmith?

Anybody can do anything themselves, but not everybody can do it right the first time they've done it. This can present a problem when dealing with something that can lock you out if done incorrectly. I'd suggest having a professional do it, and would be more than happy to refer you to somebody in your area if needed.

UL listed mechanical locks will run $75 and up. Add another $30 and up for the dial and ring. Around here, we would get $137.50 to install. This also includes a warranty on the product and installation should something go wrong.

Jacob2745;

It is best if you have a professional at least examine it before deciding to try to do it yourself. If you can get the unit to their shop, there will be a minimal cost in my experience. What you want to determine is if the bolt pattern of your digital lock is compatible with the manual combination lock you want to put on. In most cases, it should be, but I've seen import oddballs that do not adhere to the U.L. bolt pattern.

If you do have an oddball, sell the box is my advice. Then buy something else that has a S&G, LaGard, or other American made lock on it.
