Hi, guys. Just posting about an experience I just had that I did not expect, thinking it might solve someone else's problem as well.

I use a PACT powder dispenser and scale. Over the last 20 years, it has worked extremely well... until a couple of months ago. I started getting powder drops that were way off. The scale would show the correct weight of powder, but it would be off by as much as 10 grains. Far enough off that I could detect the problem with my mark-one-mod-0 eyeballs. I resorted to verifying every powder drop on a second scale.

I called and talked to PACT. They said the a/c adapter for the scale is critical to accurate functioning, and it can go bad. I ordered a new a/c adapter. No luck. Same problem. Called PACT again and talked it over. I was about to order a new scale, but then realized that a few months ago a wine cooler had been plugged into the same circuit as the powder dispenser. That wine cooler isn't exactly a high quality unit and it cycles on and off regularly. PACT suggested unplugging the wine cooler, thinking the tiny electrical spike/drop during powder dispensing could be causing the problem.

Yep. Problem gone, and the dispenser is back to functioning flawlessly. Keep that in mind if you're having problems with your digital scales. It's not only a draft or change in temperature that impacts scales, it's the load on the circuit it's plugged into as well, that can cause problems. Other electromagnetic issues can cause problems also - like lights or other things that are close to the scale or on the same circuit.

Not surprising RainDodger, most electronic equipment requires a certain voltage and direct current. Linear circuits in particular my be sensitive to a non-linear direct current power supply.

With today's DC switch-mode power supplies that cost next to nothing, a failure once in a while is to be expected.
