I've been plotting to get a 1911 in .45 acp for about a year now.

had a full frame Auto Ordinance years ago and traded it off. No regrets. It was a real dog.

have always wanted a Commander size frame...

always liked the Colt lightweight commander and Combat commander.

have been drooling over a Dan Wesson CBOB for months.

finally have the cake to buy...

CBOB has gone up in price @ Bud's ~$75, and they are now oos.

I'm seeing NIB Lightweight commanders on GB for the same price as the CBOB @ Bud's.

So...

do I

1.) wait for Buds to get the CBOB back in stock... or ....

2.) buy a CBOB for ~$40 more on GB, or ...

3.) buy a lightweight commander (the LWC is Series 80)

So please help me think this one through...

Which style trigger block does the CBOB have?

Why does the CBOB state that it's only 7+? mag. issue? or something to do with the Bobtail?

should that even be an issue?

are there any problems with the alloy frames on the LWCs in .45?

how much weight is "really" saved on the LWC?

I may or may not carry the gun (have a compact 9 that I'm fine with) But will reload for it and shoot my little heart out.

Thanks in advance....

I've been kinda interested in the CBOB and Colt LW Commander as well. The thing I don't like about the XSE LW Commander is the holster eating front slide serrations. They're Tacticool or whatever, but for me provide no useful advantage. Colt does not currently make a LW Commander without the front slide serrations. I think the CBOB 7rd mag is due to the mag, I'd think you could put an 8rd mag in if you want to, but I'm not 100% sure. I think you save pretty significant weight with the LW, maybe 10oz or so?

Actually, what I really want is a CCO model, ie. Commander slide on an Officer's frame. Unfortunately, Colt no longer makes them.

I don't know if my rambling helped at all.

Call Whittaker Guns. They havent upped their prices yet. You can still get a CBOB for under 900. Heck I just bought a Valor last Thursday for 1149.00 from them!!!!! This is assuming they still have any Wessons. The secrets out on how good they are for your dollar spent.

Yep. Give Whittaker's a call. I was going to order my CBOB through them not too long ago, but they were OOS, and Bud's had them, so I went with Bud's. Whittaker's was slightly cheaper at the time, but only by a few dollars IIRC. Ended up with it at Bud's for $869, but that was before they went up obviously.

I went with the DW over the Colt personally, although the Colts I was eyeballing were the XSE and the Series-70 repros. The DW has a better fit and finish from the ones I've been able to compare, but the Colts were really nice as well. I'd say the determining factor would be how badly you want the lighter weight.

The CBOB is a Series-70 clone, so no FPB's like the Series-80's. Is that what you were asking about?

any opinions on the durability of the LWC?
I'd guess it would be good to stay away from the mags with the McCormick style steel followers. I can't offer much more than that since I've never been a fan of lightweight 1911 frames personally, although a great many folks love them. I'm sure they are a whole lot easier to carry, but they just don't feel "right" to me when shooting.

If its mainly just shooting, not carry, you want...stay with all steel. For that matter, why not go with a 5 incher instead. Lots more options.
