Does anyone have both? I want to know how the weights compare of a loaded full-size, steel framed 1911 with a .22 conversion unit (Kimber or the like) on it to a loaded .45 lightweight commander (4 or 4.25 barrel) with no conversion unit on it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am thinking of buying a Kimber conversion unit for my Kimber Classic to use as a practice piece for my carry gun, a Lightweight Commander. I would like the weights to be as similar as possible.

The Conversion Unit still runs about 39 oz., just like a steel 1911. The .45 Commander was 26 oz. Had both, still have the Unit on a Gold Cup frame. The slide and barrel of the Commander length guns are shorter. Weight and balance of the two are substantially different.

No reason that a Unit on a 1911 frame wouldn't work as a practice piece for a Commander. The Commander would just be light and quicker on target.
