Alright, here's the scoop. Going on almost two years ago now I was involved in a domestic incident where I was arrested and all my guns were taken. I don't wish to talk to much about it, as it's obviously very embarrassing. There actually wasn't much of an incident at all, and upon seeing this I was released within hours and was charged with nothing. However, when the city gets your guns, they will fight you to the last breath to keep them; and I lost.

Fast forward two years later, I'm building up my collection again, only this time my financial situation is better and thus I'm buying better firearms (most of the stuff I lost was milsurp). The police not only took my firearms, but all my ammo and accessories EXCEPT the stuff I had for my then brand new CZ82. I still have 500 rounds of Brown Bear, 3 magazines, a complete Wolff spring kit and a holster. Not to mention I have my C&R, so getting one would be a breeze.

Here's my dilemma though. At the time, my CZ was the most modern autoloader I owned. That's changed now, and thus the appeal of the CZ has gone way down for me. Part of me would just rather put that 200 bucks toward something else, like a Ruger Single Six I've been eying. However, I also know that selling all this stuff will be somewhat of a PITA and I'm bound to take a lose on it. Not to mention I would have a complete setup waiting for the CZ.

So, what should I do?

If your financial situation is indeed better, what's $200 ?

Buy one and have a spare/stash/loaner gun.

Is there anyway you can get your guns back? Has a court decreed that you cannot?

Get another one, and if you really don't like it, then sell the whole thing as a package. Sorry you got screwed - any chance on getting your stuff back, or was it "destroyed for your own good"?

It's kinda screwy how they do things, but the policy of the city I live in is when property of that nature is confiscated, they put the decision of whether to release or withhold said property into the hands of the county; even though they really don't even have possession. It's the city's way of covering their ass in case something were to happen. Now, at the time the local media was running this thing about repeat domestic offenders and how some of these lead to murders, where were the police, etc. There was probably a push to treat all cases harshly, and I felt I got cauht up in that. I filed two petions to the court to make a release and both were denied. The only other option at that point would be to file suit against the city, which would require a lawyer and MONEY (remember, still a student), so that wasn't happening.

As far as I know, those guns are either smelted down, or in some cops collection.

If you buy a CZ, then you have a total package that's ready to go immediately.

If you don't, then you have a bunch of ammo, etc, that does you absolutely no good.

Buy another gun, you still have to buy ammo, mags, holster, etc, before you can really do anything with it.

Looks as if the supply of 82s is slowly coming to an end, should probably snag one for that reason alone. Who seems to have the best crop at the moment?

I would say if you miss that gun then, yes, buy another. Bonus, you have accessories for it.

If you dont miss it, dont replace it.

I kinda think of it this way.....Would you buy a car you dont really want just because you already have a spare set of tires, seat covers, dash protector, etc ... for it?

Well yes, buying a gun to go with the accessories will make it somewhat more desireable. But you won't be able to sell the gun as "new" once you have it. Far better to just sell off the bits you have and take your loss on those rather than buy a new gun and then take a loss on BOTH the stuff you have now AND the new gun.

The only way it would work to your advantage would be to find a very good price on a used CZ. A VERY good price. Then you could bundle the used gun and your stuff and flip the whole package or just keep it. But won't there be transfer charges and the like involved with that as well? You need to do a cost analysis to figure out the final payback. Either way though the accessories and ammo you have WILL be sold at a reduction with or without a gun to go with it. So you may as well get used to that idea.

If you're now interested in a Single Six then I likely would just sell the stuff you have to get it out of the way. If you still like the idea of the CZ then find a good deal on a used one, shoot it until it doesn't spin your crank anymore and then sell the package. But I just don't see it making sense to buy a gun just so you can sell some bits along with the gun you just got. Far better to just sell what you have and move on if you don't care about the CZ idea anymore.

I went down to the LGS after work today to see if they had any 82/83's in stock to fondle when low and behold there sat a Single Six in the exact configuration I wanted! I didn't buy it, but I think holding it sealed the deal. If I were to get another CZ I would enjoy it, but I don't see myself running out to get more Mak ammo once the initial 500 rounds disappeared. So,...

Anyone interested in:
-500 rounds of Silver Bear
-3 surplus 82/83 mags
-or both
