I got my Dillon 550B last week and have successfully loaded some 9mm with it, it came from Dillon set up for 9mm. Last night I tried to change calibere to 45 ACP and ran into a problem that stumps me. In order to get the powder bar to retract all the way back I kept screwing the powder die into the tool head until I finally was able to get the powder bar to retract all the way back. I had to screw the posder die almost all the way into the toolhead until most of the threads of the die were below the tool head. Now when I pull the operating handle, the tool head lifts off of the frame (see attached video). I think this is because the die is screwed in so far. I did not have to do this with the 9mm set up (I have separate tool head and powder measures for each caliber)

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong. Here is a picture of my 9mm set up which works fine. Notice the die is not screwed down nearly so far.

If the toolhead is lifting off the press you have a serious problem.

Can't really diagnose without seeing, but the failsafe rod will fully retract the measure.

Are you messing with us ? :) Slip the tool head into it's groove

Yeah in your picture the powder measure is not all the way on the die.

Loosen up the two cap screws on the clamp at the bottom of the measure pull the clamp bracket forward and the measure will drop down about an inch on the powder die so its covering the big groove visible above the threads of the powder die in the picture, then retighten the cap screws.
The 9mm set up is also not correctly on the powder die as you have it pictured (sitting an inch too high not clamped in the groove). When in doubt refer to the manual.

Try putting the toolhead in the groove in the frame where it belongs. Of course it's going to lift up if you sit it on top of the frame like your video shows. If you put the toolhead in the correct place, you won't have to screw the powder die in so far either!

By the way, your 9mm toolhead won't work correctly sitting on top of the frame either.

I don't know what I was thinking, it was late when I was doing this. I know to have it in the groove, I didn't have this problem with the 9mm, I knew I must be missing something obvious.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Eh - we all do silly things when we're tired. Question asked and answered, so I'm going to close this one out of charity. :)
