OK, this is the first batch of shouldered tapered rifle cases that I am loading on a Dillon 550B.

The Dillon powder dies for the straight-walled brass cases have a powder drop insert that flares the case mouth for easy insertion of the projectiles into the charged cases.

However, from the new caliber conversion kits I just received from Dillon, the rifle powder dies for shouldered cases are not designed to flair the case mouths.

Is this a non-issue for tapered rifle cases?

I can get the projectile in the cases OK, but I have to use my hand as a guide as the are pushed up into the bullet seating die. This is not necessary with the straight walled cases.

I'm using a Lee FCD in Station 4 and I have noticed that the projectiles in some charged cases after seating in Station #3 can be pushed down into the cases before they are crimped in Station #4 with the Lee FCD - UHG. I'm using RCBS rifle dies.

I cannot push the projectile into the cases after the completed ammo has been run through the Lee FCD in Station #4. Why is this possible after Station #3 but before Station #4?

I hope this does not happen in 270 Win cases or 338 Win cases since I was not planning to use Lee crimp dies for these cases.

There are no "dumb" questions in this section; right?

Thanks....

Boat-tailed bullets make it much easier, but otherwise you do have to hand guide the bullets up into the seating die.

In terms of bullets moving after seated, make sure your re-sizing die is properly setup. Possibly look at annealing your brass.

Also if you are having problems seating non-boattail bullets, just make sure you chamfer the inside of the case mouth.

Yeah if bullets are easy to push into the case you do not have proper neck tension. This will cause you problems, such as setback.. Be careful and make sure you are properly resizing your cases

What cartridge are you loading?
What is bullet dia. listed on bullet box?
How many firings on brass?
Is your die a 'Full Length Sizer"?

On the powder drop / measure, make sure to adjust per Dillon 'Rifle' instructions. Measure setup is different for rifles and pistols.
