I posted a few months ago asking for ideas on DIY stands for Dillon toolheads. The little things seem like a silly idea until you try one, and then you realize they're nice to have. But at $20+ each, they seem terribly overpriced.
Well, after I made a few measurements and sketched things out on a napkin, I realized they are terribly overpriced. Behold:
Now, when I said ten for the price of one, I wasn't being totally forthcoming with my math. It's more like ten for the price of one half--assuming you already have the right forstner bit.
For anyone interested in the critical dimensions you'll want in your head as you drive to Home Depot, the dowels (which is to say the ID of the toolhead center hole) are 0.75 inches and you'll want about 1 inch of PVC pipe for the standoff height.
