Dinging of FAL picatinny rail by mounts

My new FAL has the DSA "Extreme Duty" picatinny rail mounted to the receiver. It's obviously an aluminum part.

I am using a standard ARMS quick release mount (steel) to attack my new Aimpoint ML3 2MOA to the gun.

Is it "normal" for the mont to slightly ding the rail? Nothing major, but you can see where it was mounted. Is this anything to be concerned about, or is it just the nature of the beast?

I didn't notice any dinging on my XD scope mount, but then, I didn't do a whole lot of mounting and unmounting. You can call DSA if you're not sure, they're usually very helpful. I think it's probably the nature of using steel parts on an aluminum rail, though.

It prettymuch has to be aluminum, though. Can you imagine how much it'd weigh if it were steel?

+1. Steel is harder than aluminum. When you put them together with any type of force (including steel clamps on aluminum rails!), the harder part will mark the softer part.

Yeah, the gun is already heavy with the medium contour barrel.
