I was in Branson Mo. last week. I went to the Direct Tools store in the Shoppes outlet. When I walked into the store, 2 guys had their shirts pulled up showing off their pistols to each other. 1st guy said he was a retired sergent of the State police and he was using and OWB holster. I didn't catch what the 2nd guy did but he carried in a IWB holster. They were standing in front og a display case of nylon/cloth holsters. I heard guy 2 state; Well they are tools. As I continued looking around, I saw a display of Mossberg long guns,(2 shotguns and a rifle) and a case with a few Glocks. There was also a disply of VISM pouches and holsters, plus a display of gun specific booklets of the type on how to disassemble a gun for cleaning. I actually di not know that Direct Tools sold guns.

I've always thought a combined tool shop and gun shop would be a great idea. I could spend quite a bit of time browsing in a store like that. Last year I was prairie dog shooting in northwestern Nebraska and it rained one morning so we decided to go to Chadron, NE to a gun shop. It was located in an Ace hardware store and had a really good selection of guns and shooting supplies.

I've never heard of Direct Tool. We have a farm/ranch store that is part of an area chain and they keep a very good selection of fireams, ammo, and shooting accessories and their prices beat every one in the area except one mom and pop place.

Then we have Tractor Supply. They have gunsafes and that's it in the shooting department.

We have a CHIC Lumber/Hardware in my town that has a "gun room". Only in action Thursday, Friday, Saturday. They do act as a Gallery of Guns agent though.

We have an Ace Hardware in town and there is another 22 miles down the road. They carry gun screws in their selection of small screws. It isn't a great selection but it's better than nothing and that is what we had before they started doing this. No guns though.

They also have a lot of Yeti and Orca products. After the Yeti/NRA flap the manager in one store told me when he sold all his supply of Yeti stuff that was it for Yeti. He would just stock the other brand.

I love going into the hardware stores with a gun and fishing section...reminds me of being a kid and gazing at the new rifles and shotguns in the racks while my Dad or Grandfather picked up whatever we went there for... :)

You just reminded me of the time I went into a local Woolworth with my Dad. In the 1970's. I wandered over to the Sporting Good section to look at the BB guns, had my eye on a Crosman 760.
On the endcap they had a rack of Krags covered in Cosmoline for $25 each. Couldn't talk him into it for anything. I had the money from cutting grass. I got $5 a yard had had a few hundred saved.
It was Mom who worked as a Nurse and didn't like guns. Darn.

I hear ya, my Mom was raised on a ranch and had firearms as a part of her life... but swung the other way as a California transplant and is now a vehement anti. We just learned to avoid the subject of firearms to keep the peace.

Near my childhood home in Las Vegas my favorite variety store was Wonder World over on Decatur. I remember walking over there just to oogle the gun rack... In fact, in 1980(?) that was the place I fell in love for the first time with a Browning B 92 .44 Mag. Sadly, I never had enough $$ at the various times I’ve seen them to buy a B-92 off the rack...

Stay safe!

It’s been a few years, but I used to frequent Arkansas chasing ducks. I’ve stopped in a few different grocery stores that stocked firearms, ammo, and waders. They would be mostly shotguns and steel shot shells, but there was usually at least a few rifles and pistols on the racks and in the cases.

This was in the last 20 years.

My first gun came from a local Western Auto/ Ace hardware store. This store carried everything from furniture and Tv’s to lumber and toys. Funny enough, the Toys and the guns were only a few feet apart.
