I live in NJ, where Wal Mart doesn't sell Ammo. That pretty much leaves me with LGS, internet vendors and Dicks.

I got into a good rhythm pre-shortage. I spent about $200 on ammo whenever I saw a sale, and with their Scorecard I got a coupon for $10 every few months. Which I applied to more ammo purchases. Then they sent me points coupons which I parlayed into more $10 coupons. At the time I was going shooting every Tuesday and every other Saturday and probably putting 150 of 9mm, 50 of 45ACP downrange every week (I know I sound like Gecko45 here).

Now the sales are gone and probably never coming back. I'm shooting less as well - maybe once a month if that. I just don't have the ammo.

I never had a problem with Dicks. I've bought a few guns there-namely shotguns and .22 rifles. I know they don't sell AR's and pistols, but I'm a steel and wood guy so it's never really bothered me.

local Dick's gun guys are OK in Roanoke VA. Hey they still sell guns, when was the last time you were able to buy one at Sears, when I was growing up they were a big player. Last October scored a New Rem. 870 wood stock 12 Ga for 250.00 after the rebates, last month scored a new Rem 700 ADL 308 varmint HB with a remington marked 4X12 china scope and mount (using the scope for a 22 project) for 403.00 tax included after the rebates. I don't care about what their corporate policy is as long as I can buy at a fair price... They also sell Rem bulk pack 22LR 525 rounds for 18-22, when they can get it in.

My only beef with Dick's was their wholesale panic after Sandyhook. You are either going to sell gun or you are not. They seemed to have pussyfooted around the issue quite nice.

The aptly named Dick's sold me exactly one gun, a Mossberg 930 SPX, basically because of price. Sale price was good and I had another 50 buck coupon that worked. Too good to pass up, so I held my nose.

I patron them for ammo occasionally, though it costs more than WM... Reason is that they sell guns for now. Will they continue to sell guns and ammo if we don't patron them?

I don't know, but the more places that are in the main stream selling G&A the better in my mind, that way those products are perceived more normal by folks who are everyday folks who may not be into guns. Plus, it may get people into firearms for hobby or sport, which in my way of thinking is a good thing. My two cents... YMMV,

DD
