disappointed this weekend

I was at my parents home this Easter and my father who knew I want to get a real 1911 told me that a local gunstore had a 1911A1 for $1100. I got pretty excited and went to see it when I got there. As the store owner got the gun out he said it was an original 1911A1 unfired. Well, that first got me real excited but then quickly suspicion grew. I looked at it and it looked too new. there was still grease on the magazine. I looked at the serial number and it started with WMK, but I was sure that original 1911s did not have letters in the serial. I asked him again if it was real and he said yeah from the 1950s. That too was not right. So I wrote down the serial # and when I got home, sure enough it was a colt 1911A1 reproduction made between 2001-2004. That really dissapointed me cause in the area I live, the only 1911s there are are all in poor, poor, poor, condition and usually are priced between $3000-$5000. The gun looked nice but I collect old guns and a reproduction is not something I want. Oh well, the search continues.

That stinks....did you call the shop and let them know the truth(or perhaps let them know they are lying to people)?

What part of VA are you in. I see 1911 all the time in VA shops?

I am near Lexington VA in the south west of the state. In the three gun stores near me, they mostly focus on inexpensive hunting rifles and shotguns, and new pistols. At this store with the 1911A1 the only older firearm was an old Raven Arms .25 or something like that from the 70s.

Yes, sounds like that dealer was try'in too bamboolze you into buying his
reproduction weapon~!

You need to come up north or find yourself a good transfer dealer. There are tons of good 1911's if you are willing to pay.

You should have know that it was not original at that price. A unfired real Colt of that vintage would not be selling for anywhere near $1100.

They normally go for much more.

I do need to get to North VA. I believed the price first off because my father had called me and didnt mention the condition. I had figured it would have been in used condition like most of the 1911s out there. When I got to the store and the owner said unfired, I thought that would be great to get an unfired 1911 for $1100, but this can't be right.
