Discontinuing the GLOCK 19 ?

Gaston Glock ain't no dummy, and it doesn't make business sense (to me) to stop selling such a popular pistol.

This thread seems more like an attempt at starting internet rumor and disinformation, and ought to be treated as such.

G19 stopping production...I think not.

Glocks product line up is stagnant and unchanged. They seem to neither introduce anything new or discontinue weak sellers (e.g. 45GAPs). They have a lineup of guns that they concentrate on improving, nothing more, nothing less.

Could it be because of this issue?

Interesting article. Never happened to me but that doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist.

Also didn't know NYPD carried the G19, thought they carried the G21 or G22. Why would any department issue their officers the G19 as a primary carry weapon?

New NYPD officers are not issued any firearms. They are allowed to purchase a Glock 19, Smith 5946, or DAO Sig 226. End of list.

The glock is cheaper. Cops vote with their wallets just like everybody else.

That I know of, NYPD is wedded to the 9x19mm.

The Glock 19 is the perfect law enforcement compromise, at least for those willing to live with 9x19mm.

It's big enough to be a perfectly adequate holster pistol.
It's small enough to be easily concealed, removing the need for specialized concealment guns, except in unusual deep cover situations.
It has light enough recoil that women with no shooting experience beyond police training can adequately use it.

They would only discontinue the Glock 19 if they were about to introduce a new 9mm of similar size. Why bother when the 19 is their top seller?

FYI some internet reportings of ambidextrous latch like moldings, ala 21SF, appearing on new glock 9mm magazines.

They'll never replace the 19 IMHO. It's one of the best carry guns ever made. DOZENS of the top trainers in this country and others use them daily as workhorse range tools. I know of at least 3 instructors that have gone through several bbls over the years (one guy does a lot of training for the DOE and swaps barrels every 50-100K rounds or so as accuracy dies out) I have personally carried 6 Glocks over the years with thousands of rounds through all of them. Never had one Ka-boom or had a "phase3" and don't know anyone firsthand that has. Have seen a few Glock failures but none caused any injury. 17/22 19/23 G21/30 have to be some of the best most reliable guns out there and you can buy a used one CHEAP if you shop. Think about autoloaders in the 70's and 80's (before you sent them out tho make them feel good and work) and today (sig HK Beretta ect) pricewise. They aint pretty and they aint perfect...but they're as close as $400-500 is ever going to get you. And a LOT better and tougher than many things you could buy for twice that.

Me -I Like 1911's....but I'd trust a Glock in a heartbeat....definately more than the gunzone guy who suffers from a permanent case of..."chip-on-his-shoulder-itis" about as bad as most of the "internet gun-gods" drink the kool-aid while worshipping at the "tennifer temple" of Gaston Glock (one of gunzone guys best euphemisms ever BTW) secure in the knowledge that all GLOCKS are twice as deadly as all other handguns combined

All guns fail and all guns break...some just seem to do it a lot less than others. Glocks are hard to break and simple to fix (simple parts swaps) as ugly plastic guns go they are tops in my book. They are nearly "COP-PROOF" and that in and of itself is an accomplishment...of course NYers on average probably know about as much about guns as they probably do farm equipment...so forgive me if I don't rethink my expirience ( and perhaps more importantly) that of nearly everyone I know who has been there and done that and got a paycheck for it -based on those two sources?

Besides- Everyone knows all the best shooters come from AL. GA. and Texas (in that order) anyway...why even consider input from some yankee cops from NY?

We own both--plus a G21--and they are fabulous combat handguns!

I agree about the popular G19. If not a CZ in my holster, it will be a Glock in 9mm.

I've read that the Glock 19 is now outselling the G23. Improved 9mm loads
and I'm sure the recent skyrocketing of ammo pricing contributed to that.

People are looking at the cheapest way to practice. A CZ in 9mm or
Glock in 9mm with the .22 adapter kit is the way a lot of new shooters are
going.
