I would think that Leupold would know the correct pronunciation of their name
Not necessarily. Many immigrants Anglicized either spelling or pronunciation of their names for reasons.
Google translate has LOY pold for English, LOY poldt for German.

It doesn't help that the "folks" in Washington talk about "Fully Semi-Automatic guns that pump out 500 bullets a second."

I would ask them where I can buy a one-half or one-third semi-automatic.
Never fired an M16A2? I'd call that 1/3 automatic. ;)

Entropy- No I carried an M14 without being issued a selector. So it was always on semi. I did try to "acquire" a selector.

How did the 1/3 work on the M16A2?

"AMMO"...Every time I see or hear that term I feel I will be looking at some sort of under educated "camo" wearing dude who wants to rule the people around him. The proper word for completely assembled rounds is "AMMUNITION".

Transmission gets abbreviated to tranny or trans. (Search for “tranny parts” and see what you get!) Ammunition to ammo doesn’t bother me at all. Especially when doing quick searches. And is there such a thing as an ammunition can? Seems like I only see ammo cans.

I dislike the term "black rifle", "assault rifle", "automatic rifle". I prefer to say "firearm", "pistol", "rifle", or "gun" instead of "weapon". IMHO, a weapon can be almost anything from a rock to a tree branch to someone's fists or feet.

Then there are reloaders who insist on calling bullets "pills". Bullets are not pills. Bullets are bullets. Doctors do not prescribe bullets for patients nor does CVS or Walgreens sell bullets.

We knew this RN years ago. She was very thin, tall and very pale and serious. We all knew her as "Scary lady".
I'd known her for about a few years by then.
I was complaining about a upset stomach and asking for some advice (which i eventually got).
She then produced a clip of 5 .308 from her purse, placed it in my hand and told me to "take 5 and call me in the morning" then walked away.

After picking myself off the floor from shock and laughter. I found out she did indeed have a sense of humor. She always wanted to try that and figured I'd take it well. Also found out she liked shooting her M1a.

The OP wanted to know what terms that bothered you and I answered with one. There are a few others such as magazine being called a "clip".

I carry for the protection of my family and property. Bravery? Let me know how you feel about that before and after you have gotten out of a tight situation.

So? It's their name and I'm going to defer to how they want it pronounced. I have had a few instances when dealing with people in the northeast part of the US pronouncing my name incorrectly or wanting to spell it incorrectly. I didn't get upset but pointed out their mistake. Different part of the country or world, different pronunciations, and different spelling are fine with me. Just use my choice when dealing with me.

...Back when I read gun magazines (1990's) the terms "iconic" and "venerable" were frequently used about the 1911.
When I saw venerable 1911 used again in another article ... :barf:

That clip/magazine packaging may cause somebody an aneurysm, its glorious; I'd keep that handy for whenever somebody corrected someone for calling a magazine a clip.

Look again-
index.php

It's not a Clip/Magazine (clip or magazine). It's a Clip Magazine. They use the word "clip" in place of "detachable" to describe what type of magazine it is.

Same as the clip used for the Garand is called an en bloc clip. En bloc describes a clip that's inserted "as a whole" into the magazine

A bit harsh , perhaps? "Ammo" is a term commonly used by responsible , stand-up people both military and civilian for generations.

A combination of off topic and personal engagement like this is a sure way to kill a thread.

When you talk about your assault rifle with tactical flash hider that shoots 6.5 Grendel bullets out of 30 round clips people will know what you mean. Its not at all how I'd say it but what do I care, I get your point.

If you try to tell me that 6 shooters are better first time handguns because they're easier to shoot thats where I draw the line ;)

You got me.
Still, maybe some would see it like I did at first.

Knockdown power is the only gunny term I can think of that hasn’t been listed. It doesn’t bother me, but makes me roll my eyes I think.

in every day usage;
“Have a good rest of your day” drives me nuts. flows like crap

I shot a “Toad”
What does that mean? In the area where I grew up, there were millions of toads around. And right or wrong, we shot them for sport and target practice. So if some kid said, “I shot a toad,” it literally meant they “shot a toad.” I guess it means something else nowadays, huh?
Thanks.:)

Correction:

Upon more reflection, the worst (for me) are actually those used by the Anti-gunners which they make up, or willingly grossly distort, and I can't easily visualize.

Also- >>> implied <<< drive-by bayonetings? o_O So Common in south Chicago.

* "Weapons of war" seems to include that.. True accounts: Danish "Great Heathen Army" vs. Anglo-Saxons, i.e. around 852 AD.
Location: southeast England. The Maxwell House coffee hit my post-nap skull (SKOL ! ;)) an hour ago.
