I am getting ready to renovate my gun room/workshop and want to display my firearms a little better (right now they are piled all over the place!). I like the pegboard/hook idea, as I would like options for all sizes of firearms - pistols thru longarms, but I am open to other ideas that members might have come up with. The room is interior, sealed and dehydrated, with a blank 18'x8' wall to work with.

Do you members have some good ideas?

FWIW

I was the victim of a burglary years ago, and had mine out, proudly displayed. Made easy pickins for the buttheads, ( never found I might add), and ever since then, keep them hidden throughout the house, and other places. All 'cept what I carry on my hip, for all the honest world to see.

Hey swing,

I like the idea. But it may be a bit more helpfull if you could tell us more about your conditions.

Are there any children around?

Is this a room where vistors will be on a regular basis?

If you're married, how's the wife feel about all those guns on the wall?

Well, you get the idea. There are a lot of folks here that are quite good at that sortof thing.

I just display old worthless ones, usually the ones that with a cracked barrel/reciever or no firing pin. the ones that actually work are either in the safe or loaded and hidden.

All of my firearms (excepting immediate defensive weapons) are stored in safes. It is just too dangerous to have them in view, relatively unsecured.

My goal, someday, is to convert a room into a walk-in vault with the firearms displayed on the walls and in racks. I know one person that has done this and it is an impressive sight.

An 8x18 wall covered in peg board with all of your guns displayed. Hmm.. where you in that Tremors movie? :D :D
"Ya broke into the wrong Gol-durn rec room didn't ya?"
I only have a nonworking Civil War musket hanging up.

No kids, no wife and no one going in the room except me and people who are under personal invitation. The room is hidden from casual (or not so casual for that matter) observence.

Don't worry, I feel the same as you guys about "showing off" my firearms, I only want them displayed for me. MY motto is the best way to prevent a breakin is to make the scumbags think you don't have anything of value. That's why I want all my machinery, tools, benches, presses, guns, etc. in a room of their own.

As far as a safe, consider this a "walk-in" gun safe....

Hmmmm....Tremors....yeah, that's what I want, a room like him! Does Reba come with it!?!=

heres an idea...build or have som3one build a case with pegs to hold them up then build the case into the wall.you can add plexiglass with a small florescent light in there and a on/off switch(bought at any radioshack store or electronic place)above the display on the outside.it will remain dark and the guns not visable until the light is turned on.i had a similiar thing built in my den only it was for a large aquarium.looks like a huge picture when lights are on.neat when all the lights are off and i turn on the blue ligt in the tank.

Swingcatt, you're brave.I don't keep any except one for home defense out.I recommend displaying them in a safe.Several years ago my home was broken in to. If it wasn't for my vault I would have been cleaned out.The guy had enough time to sheer the sheer pin off. Tried prying the dial off.Thankfully the scumbag couldn't get in.Unless you can be there 24/7 a safe is your best bet with an alarm system as a back up.

Dunno that this is "ideal"...

but for the very few I have out, I get wooden pegs from Menard's.

The base is about 3"x3", then the peg slides in. I think they're originally made as coat hooks. They hang with 2 screws. There's a little angle built in so the gun leans towards the wall. I use them to mount my muzzle loader above my TV. Nice that they're wood and don't scratch, and they're basically hidden after the guns' mounted.

(rant on)...Come on guys...he just asked a simple question. I don't understand why somebody automatically gets bashed and jumped on. I think most rational people understand the idea of gun safes vs display...(rant off)
