If it was the old style dissipator (Colt 605) where the barrel was simply cut off in front of the front sight block, then yes a suppressor might help it be reliable as it would increase effective "dwell" time a little bit.
Most dissipator type uppers are built with a low-profile gas block at the mid-length or carbine position, though, and simply have a full front sight block at the rifle location so they can hold rifle-length handguards.
So they'll run properly with or without a suppressor.
