Disturbing Email

Something for the delete folder. Real or fake it isn't something I'd care to get my monicker attached to even in the reporting thereof.

Hmm, their main page states that for the last year they have been under various attacks, including people sending email offers under their name. They do not promote kiddie porn, send unsolicited emails, etc...

I would not take it seriously for one minute but there's no way I'd simply delete it. Could be entrapment to nail people for not doing their patriotic duty. Used to be such tactics were illegal but who knows now? Given the Patriot Act, the wording of this note, and the voracity of our legal leeches I doubt you'd even get a trial. CYA.

I say again, people. Not a sting. It's as if someone just sent out a bunch of emails purporting to be from shadowcrew.com saying WE ARE ALL GAY.

Same thing except this one is more stupid and less funny.

Not really threatening.

A cursory examination of their website: www.shadowcrew.com indicates that they do not in fact send out spam, or advertisements, etc. and apparently have been targeted by groups that do not like them in a campaign to (presumably) bring federal pressure down on them.

Thus it is likely that:
  1. It is not a Fed sting, but rather, it is the result of an independent group (as the feds don't send out e-mails to get attention on particular sites, rather the feds infiltrate and prosecute such).
  2. Since they apparently do fake IDs I'll wager the modern day temperance movement is behind the effort.
  3. Sending e-mail to the Feds is your call, but I think the Feds have better things to worry about than whether or not little Johnny is drinking beer (or *gasp* hard liquor!)
  4. The feds don't give a flip about this website because it is easy to infiltrate.
  5. If Mr Muslim Terrorist uses this site, there is a government computer program that quickly figures out who he is, and then quickly busts him.
  6. *If* the e-mail was sent by the feds, then it is designed to attract the attention of any incompetent terrorists (and let us hope they are many) who believed the VPC and HCI (BCPGV) propaganda regarding the easy with which "assault weapons" may be acquired within the US.
    [/list=1]

This being the case... I'm calling this one a false alarm. That means all the wannabe snitches, and all the tinfoil-hat folks worried about government entrapment can drop their blood pressure. If the government (or anyone else) was trying to entrap you, they'd be a LOT smarter about it than that.

Hate to say it, but if a sting op is something people think is unlikely...

I like the identity theft idea. Should have thought of that one myself.
