A family member of mine just posted this on her Facebook page. How would you respond?

"Behavioral health issues & guns: "perfect" storm will only intensify. How many deaths/incidents will it take to rectify?"

Thanks for any ideas!

Is she planning on shooting people? If so get her help immediately. If she is accusing others of possible mayhem I'd ignore her.

Is she a psychiatrist or an behavioral health expert?

Or simply is she reposting the one of Bloomberg's/Mom's propaganda?

Sounds like the latter.

.

If that post of hers did originate from one of Bloomberg's organizations. There is a LOT on the net about Bloomberg's credibility, that would be good counter material.

Or the other option , as some suggested is not to respond or waste your time.

Or maybe unfriend her, because you found her post was offensive....

The only other things I can add here is to post some pro-gun self defense stories on her Facebook page and see what reaction you get.
.

I have an uncle who is a rabid anti gunner. He posted another one of his usual gun control rants on Facebook recently calling NRA members "child murderers".

Her post may have been prompted by the shooting in Santa Barbara, CA last night, where it was reported that six people were killed and seven injured...

This is my thought too...

It is now being reported that the killer had a Facebook page where he outlined his intentions. His parents were aware of this, and reported their concerns to a law enforcement agency over a week ago. Apparently nothing was done. Keep this in mind if an attack on guns comes up.

This would probably be a poorly chosen time to start accusing people of being stupid, "needing their heads examined," or being driven by emotion. That kind of utterly tone-deaf response gives the other side ammo to use against us. Just acknowledge that a tragedy occurred and that options have to be considered.

It does not sound to me as if she has expressed an intelligent enough thought in order for it to be deserving of a response.

Vaguebooking is annoying enough anyway

^^ this.. There is quite a lot of incoherent rambling nonsense posted on Facebook. This sounds like one.

Except these trolls rock the cradle and if we do nothing, the next generation will be even more opposed to guns. This BS started in the 60's with LBJ's "Great Society" and Has killed us by death by a thousand cuts ever since.

We do not want to blow this off, but go against it with everything to set her straight.

Hells yeah! Start ranting about politics before the bodies cool! The farther back you can go and the more decades dead politicians (from the other side) you can blame, the more convincing you will be. Don't forget to accuse her of feeling instead of thinking, use the word "sheeple" as many times as possible, and_just because_smugly note that words have meanings.
The two assclowns at Chipotle might actually represent a greater than anticipated portion of the gun owning public.

I agree completely. There needs to be a lot more done to address behavioral health issues.

Probably best not to respond at all. But if I did, I'd stress the mental health aspect. Virtually all mass killings, (with any weapon, not just guns) involve folks with known mental issues. Or at least someone should have known.

It's a public relations war and we have too many well-meaning bunglers on this side. Right now, not commenting at all wouldn't be a bad strategy. The clueless thing you don't say now, can't be rubbed in your face later. This has happened enough times before today that I am completely sure that saying nothing until emotions begin to ease will be better than spouting all of our sides well-worn sound bytes and catch phrases.
