Link didn't work for me.

I thought that building a smg was a no no after '86. I don't have sworn testimony to that effect, I just remember reading it somewhere.:D

Not a good topic for open discussion (or closed discussion) as it may seem to be conspiritorial... and we wouldn't want that, now would we? Too bad, really.

I always wanted to see John Moses Browning's design for an automatic lever action repeating rifle in real life.

Does it exist in any museum anywhere? I've seen drawings of it.

There's a license you can get to manufacture your own full-autos. I forget the number--it's not Class III--but it costs $500 a year. The only catch is that you can't sell them; they're strictly for your own possession and use.

To be able to legally build a machine gun you need to get an SOT. (Special Occupational Tax). For information on how to do this contact the BATF.

Building any weapon capable of full auto fire on your own would be a felony.

Here's the book mentioned....

Expedient Homemade Firearms : The 9mm Submachine Gun by P.A. Luty

But I like this one better....
Do-It-Yourself Submachine Gun : It's Homemade, 9mm, Lightweight, Durable-And It'll Never Be On Any Import Ban Lists! by Gerard Metral

And here's their editorial review/disclaimer.....
Book Description: Build your own 9mm, blowback, selective-fire submachine gun that's as powerful as an Uzi or HK MP5 but has fewer parts and is more durable. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions and machinist's drawings in this book. For academic study only.

Feel free to read the book. If you want to actually use the instructions, save time and money and just book yourself reservations at Club Fed.

Knowledge is good. Wisdom is knowing when to use it.

Not exactly true. There is no provision for obtaining a license to manufacture machineguns for your personal use. If you are going to manufacture machineguns, you have to set up an actual business to sell them to either LEOs/Government or for export. It requires lots of money, federal, state and local licenses, insurance, business location and tons of paperwork.

an one must consider the safty aspects of doing this also.the thing could very easily blow up in your face, especially if the diy builder has no clue about metalurgy and expanding pressure..book sounds like a bunch of crap.

Look, I'm 13 too, and if you do this, I'd like to have a nice lunch with you and discuss it when you're 33-38. Don't do this, it might blow up in your face (as said before) and you'd have a damn hard time explaining burn marks over your face and hands, as well as shrapnel imbedded in your skin. Do it when the time is right, or it is neccesary, as Gary said, not now for kicks and giggles.

meh i don't have a enough $$ to bye a book Ike this and its for academic study only i Wod much rather get a poor mans James bond book be sides the parents won't let me build one :)

Someone needs to state this clearly:

Such books are for entertainment purposes only. Unless you have been approved, via high fees and paperwork and intense interviewing and have good contacts, building a machinegun will cost you $250,000 fine and 20 years in federal prison.

There is lots of misinformation and incomplete information tossed around about DIY-SMGs. Bottom line, for all practical purposes, is to build one gets you one step below life in prison. Unless you know the relevant laws inside & out, don't even THINK of making your own.

After following these discussion boards for a while, especially if you actually read the federal laws, you'll understand why people get so bent out of shape at even the mere mention of DIY-SMGs. They are really neat to think about, though...
