A couple of Saturdays ago, I was at home alone and two guys claiming they were from the DNC and wearing 'ID cards' that stated such, came by, introduced themselves and offered to collect our absentee ballots in lieu of mailing them back. I had already mailed them so they didn't get them.

I have a couple of observations/questions about that:

1) My wife and I are NPA so were they just trying to get a swing vote? How could they hope to if we already completed the ballots before they came by? Were they anticipating that maybe we hadn't bothered to fill them out yet and would do so on the spot?

2) They came by car so they were obviously working from an address list. I have a Mel Martinez(R) sticker and an NRA sticker on my truck which I am sure they saw as the parked right behind it. Could they have been visiting addresses looking for evidence of a Republican vote (like mine) and collecting the ballots and destroying them? Could they not have been from the DNC? These 'ID cards' could have been printed on my home printer.

3) Were they just trying to be nice?

Please don't berate me for opening my door. I am a grown man and a big one at that with two large dogs in a very low-crime area. I always open my door after a visual inspection if all looks okay. Plus, I think I had a gun in my pocket.

The DNC and, presumably, per the media, the RNC have been sending folks around to steal yard signs in some areas in Florida already. Could they really stoop this low? You cannot prove anything anyway so what would stop them?

Stoop so low? You have to be kidding!

These are the same folks who help Alzheimers patients vote in nursing homes (ever wonder why nursing homes have 100% voting records), fight against any attempts to require voter identification, and who have 10,000 trial lawyers poised to challenge every close precinct.

These are the same folks who have already said that if "every vote" is counted, John Kerry will be President. What they mean by "every vote" is every fraudulent, bogus, duplicate vote, and the votes of dead people, family pets, underaged children, felons, and illegal immigrants.

There is no level too low for these folks.

Oh, WOW!!!

The BS Meter just broke off the needle while slamming on the right peg. Not on the story, but that the DNC would actually collect ballots in a non-partisan manner.

Ohio Att'y Gen Jim Petro (or was it Ohio Sec. of State Ken Blackwell, don't remember which) flatly stated that in Ohio, only a family member [spouse/parent/sibling] can turn in your absentee ballot for you.

These two guys are driving around blatently commiting voter fraud, and you didn't even get pictures, much less call the police?

The tricks being played in this election are already legendary.

I hope the ensuing mess results in much more tamper resistant methodology next time.

I just mailed in my ballot and it says on it plainly who can return it. I does not include anybody outside the family.

For anybody that is contacted for this "service" please get their names, license # and call the police.

Chances are that if you give them your ballot they would destroy it if it doesn't agree with their choice or change it to read who they want to win.

Pictures

Does no one own a camera? I plan to take camera film and tape recorder with me on the 2nd as I camp out with condeming rollcall voteing records of one congresional hippy chick who should be in a nursing home. Located in france or germany.

NOW you want the police.....

presumably with tasers set to roast and pepperballs epoxied into lethal globs.

What would you civil liberties type have us do, stop them for depriving the post office of business? What criminal statute has been violated by asking someone if they want a packet delivered to the post office?

Could they really stoop this low?

You think they wouldn't? I have no doubt that both parties do this sort of thing without a second thought. The world will end if the other guy gets into office, so anything done in support of the right guy is excusable.

Oh, I'm sure you could find something else if you really wanted. Maybe a busted tail light or expired registration. If they're Democrats, they've probably got outstanding warrants, or are not paying child support. :p

If you give your absentee ballot to anyone other than the postal service or the comissioner of elections, you're an idiot.
