A couple of Saturdays ago, I was at home alone and two guys claiming they were from the DNC and wearing 'ID cards' that stated such, came by, introduced themselves and offered to collect our absentee ballots in lieu of mailing them back. I had already mailed them so they didn't get them.
I have a couple of observations/questions about that:
1) My wife and I are NPA so were they just trying to get a swing vote? How could they hope to if we already completed the ballots before they came by? Were they anticipating that maybe we hadn't bothered to fill them out yet and would do so on the spot?
2) They came by car so they were obviously working from an address list. I have a Mel Martinez(R) sticker and an NRA sticker on my truck which I am sure they saw as the parked right behind it. Could they have been visiting addresses looking for evidence of a Republican vote (like mine) and collecting the ballots and destroying them? Could they not have been from the DNC? These 'ID cards' could have been printed on my home printer.
3) Were they just trying to be nice?
Please don't berate me for opening my door. I am a grown man and a big one at that with two large dogs in a very low-crime area. I always open my door after a visual inspection if all looks okay. Plus, I think I had a gun in my pocket.
The DNC and, presumably, per the media, the RNC have been sending folks around to steal yard signs in some areas in Florida already. Could they really stoop this low? You cannot prove anything anyway so what would stop them?
Greg
