I want to change the scope set up on my deer rifle. It is an old Winchester model 70 ranger. When I bought the scope back in the 90's I didn't really know what I was doing as I had never had optics on a rifle before. The shop sat it up on see through mounts. I have never really liked the way it's sat up & have been meaning to change it for years. So I have been looking at the different mounting systems & was thinking of using this http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=746094

Does anyone have experience with the DNZ one piece mount. I was thinking it might simplify things as alignment should not be an issue. I would also like to get a better scope but don't have the cash to do so right now so this would be used with an old Tasco World Class 3 X 9 X 44 I bought back around '95. I think I would need the medium height to allow for the size of the front reticle. Any help would be appreciated.

Never used those, but I've heard good things. I have however used the Burris Signature Zee rings and Weaver style bases, and I love this setup. IMO the Burris rings are some of the best you can get under $100. Optics Planet has them for under $30. Different bases, different guns, and different rings, all allow for different size scopes to be used with different sized mounts. What gun is this going on? I'd guess mediums would probably work for you, but you may need highs depending on the setup. I run mediums with my 40mm scopes, and I love that combination. Sure sometimes I could go slightly lower with the scope, but not much, and I get a perfect cheek weld with the mediums.

Most of my rifles have their scopes in Talley lightweights, but I have used the DNZ on one rifle in the past. VERY good stuff. The Talley's or DNZ are the only mounts I'll use anymore.

To my mind the Talley's look a little better, but I think the DNZ's are a little tougher. I just bought a 7mm Rem mag rifle and bought DNZ mounts for this rifle. Don't have the scope mounted yet.

DNZ mount combos can't be beat for non quick detach systems.I used one on both the .375 and the .270 WSM in Africa and had zero mount worries. I still use them on my current hunting weapons.I use Picatinny system on the tactical stuff tho. You need Medium rings for that combo BTW

I have 6 of them mounted on various rifles... I like them because they are simple, sturdy and relatively inexpensive. If your looking for a solid mount for a hunting rifle you can't go wrong with one of these.

EDIT: I've run mediums on a couple 3x9-40 Nikon scopes on Savage 116's and had a some room to spare so assuming you don't have clearance issue's with a rear sight I believe a medium would work.

I'm using the DNZ's on a Browning X-Bolt and a T/C Omega. Very good mounting system.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Good point about clearance on the rear sight Nautilus. I was thinking about taking the sights off and putting some black silicone in the screw holes. Maybe I should just get the high mount though.
Opinions?
