Do all EoTech suck or just some?

No one seems to know but when I took mine out in 110F heat I could not even find my zero and could not dial it in (seemed to drift as the gun got hotter). I lost trust in it and returned it.

Never had a problem with mine. I've had it about 3 years now. Can't say I have ever had a problem with it drifting. I've had the rifle pretty hot too.

I had an Eotech 516 and loved it; mine was the dual-CR123 version with the built-in riser to give a lower-1/3 cowitness on an AR. It is still the best 1x optic I've ever used, from a shooting perspective (USPSA-style carbine matches, and casual shooting out to 200 yards), *but* there are valid reliability concerns. My diffraction grating delaminated (e.g. separated slightly from the glass) after a few years of use, and that made a portion of the reticle much dimmer, though the optic was still usable. Eotech emailed me a shipping label and had me ship it to them overnight (IIRC) for free, and it was back in my hands in less than a week in perfect condition. So their customer service was top notch, but the product itself was a little delicate, apparently.

I never used mine in temps much above 100 or took a carbine class with it, so I can't tell you if the zero would wander if you left it lying in full sun for hours in an Arizona summer, or banged it around a lot. But here in eastern NC, with moderate use, it seem to hold zero OK. I eventually sold it and picked up a Primary Arms Aimpoint knockoff for now, and intend to get an Aimpoint PRO at some point; being able to leave an optic on for months or years at a time in the safe is nice. The Eotech batteries would last about half a year if it was turned on every night before bed; it has an auto-shutoff after 8 hours, and warns you when they need to be changed.

I think its like low number 1903 Springfields. It may not be that they are all bad, just that theres no way to know if and when any particular one may fail.

To me, if this statement is true it sounds like its better to just bet against them and buy another brand. Other wise its a high dollar gamble.

In discussions elsewhere, a number of experienced users have thoroughly laid out numerous failures they have personally seen in Military and LE use. Despise may not be out of line to explain their feelings.

I have (2) Eotechs 1 still works like it should. #2 lost a lot of brightness and can not be used in daytime. I have swiched to Aimpoint Pro on another, and after a couple years am very happy with it. I will not buy any more Eotechs and I used to swear by them.

Darn it guys, you got me contemplating returning mine.

I wasn't going to return mine either. Never had any issues with POI shifts or battery life and still love the reticle. Course I live in gulf coast TX, so it was never subjected to cold environments. Hotter than hell, but never anything near cold.

However, last time I grabbed the rifle to put up, before heading out of the country, it wouldn't shut off and had to pull the batteries.. Was glad to see a recent post in the returns thread, so as soon as I return stateside in a couple weeks it's going back.

I had one, after a few years of use it got somewhat erratic and I didn't trust it. sent it back for the refund. I have a friend who has several of them, still swears by them, so I get to shoot through them any time I like; shot a magazine through one this very afternoon. When they work right they are very nice.

anyone here think they will fold shop? I think it would be tough to rebuild a reputation after this. Especially for a high end optic company.

I have several of them and never had any trouble. They don't get a lot of hard usage however from me.

I also live on the Gulf Coast. I have had to replace the battery springs twice now, first time due to battery leak. Got to where I will not leave the batteries in the sight when not in use. Left the batteries on the shelf inside it's housing while the rifle hung on a hook. Came back to find the battery gasket, cups and springs were all over the bottom of the safe. My other optics are not this hard to maintain.

After reading this thread, saw the opportunity to get rid of something I like, but has caused me problems.

Filled out the form today.

Now got to find something in that price range that does the same purpose.

EoTech is a subsidiary of L3 Communications. a $13 billion concern. So, yes, I agree that their reputation has taken a hard hit. However, since EOTech is part of the L3 Warrior Systems Division, which does a lot more in terms of optics and infrared. I'll be curious to see what happens next ... ride it out and come back roaring with an improved or new line of optics ... or quietly fold EoTech into the rest of the Warrior Systems Division. I'm watching this. I don't think they would fold shop entirely, though.

I decided to keep my EoTech after going around in circles about it. I only had the reported issues in when transitioning from very cold outdoor weather to warm indoors and vice versa. Not encouraging. But I do like the reticle, and use it 99% for indoor usage (straight from car to indoor range, and vice versa). I also have an Aimpoint Pro on another AR.

In reading what I could from eotech 2014 they were supposed to have fixed a lot of the problems mine was a 2013 so I contacted them and they said send it in so I did, Having a heck of a time replacing it, decided to go 1-6 power so on 1 can use it as a red dot, But shoot for distance without changing scopes, But which one, Like the leupold fire dot 1.5 -4x24, also vortex 1-4 with 30mm tube pst, Really like strike eagle 1-6 with BDC, Ive heard its not that good, I realize its not a razor or nightforce etc but this is for a AR 15 out to 300yds or so, I have other precision rifles have any of you actually used one and whats your opinion, This is my knock around carry in the truck and on 4 wheeler AR

A bit late to this thread but I figured Id share my experiences with them.

My first real exposure to EOTechs was my 2005 tour. Our main optic in my unit was the Aimpoint M68 but a few guys were running EOTechs. The 512 model I believe. Maybe 10 guys out of my company of roughly 100 guys. By the end of our year long tour every single guy had an Aimpoint on their rifle. Luckily they didn't crap out in the middle of a gunfight.

When I started carrying a rifle as a LEO I saw a lot of EOTechs at first. This was a little before the Aimpoint PRO came out, so most guys bought the cheaper EOTech. EOTechs easily outnumbered the Aimpoints 2 to 1 if not more. However every qual someone would have an EOTech go down. These were the older 5xx series models so the main culprit was the battery terminals. A few guys switched over to the XPS models which fixed the battery issue. 8 years later nobody has EOTechs anymore. Everyone has switched over to Aimpoint or the Viper PST 1-4 with a few guys rocking low powered Leupolds or the new MRO

The last guy I know that was rocking a XPS began complaining about zero shift the same week that the L3 lawsuit dropped and the refunds were announced. He had that thing boxed up that week.

They're not being parallax free, as advertised, was a deal killer for me. I found an Aimpoint CompM2 I'm very happy with.
