Do any of you "pocket carry"?

I very rarely use any other method. Works for me. But then, I'm a very low value target. ;)

Post a pic if you get a chance, I'd like to see how you pull this off. I can't figure out how this is possible. The longest barreled revolver I've ever been able to pocket carry had a 4" barrel. And that was a compact frame double action in a great big winter jacket pocket. Even then it stuck out a bit.

Again, I do have to cover the grip with a shirt. It does not completely disappear in my pocket.

Taurus 731UL .32 H&R Magnum in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster.

Holy :D. A Vaquero in a pocket? Can you actually sit down with it in your pocket?

Long ago, I would slip my 6" GP100 in the waistband in the back of my pants to do a quick walk around my property, but there was no way I was going to sit down or try and run with that beast back there.

I do pocket carry, but the max size for me is a snubnose revolver.

Around the ranch I regularly carry my Glock 20 in my front pocket. It prints like crazy but that is not something I worry about on my own place plus it is a very comfortable means of carry for me.

Been Pocket Carrying my S&W Model 10 'Snubby' on a trial basis, but I still need to Bob the Hammer.

Seems to ride and draw very nicely...does not print so long as I fold some thin cardboard to go between it and the outside Pocket cloth.

Once the Hammer is Bobbed, it'll be 'prefect'.

Might round the Butt, also.

I have a Beretta Jetfire in my pocket as I type this post. It's stritcly a BUG, but it's a nice little pistol and certainly fills the better-than-no-gun-at-all manatra.

Well, the ruger does work in the front pocket of my carhartts. I read the thread and then came back to it after trying it for a while. Drawing isn't bad either.

The only thing that bothers me (okay two things) is that if I had the choice, I wouldn't use a single action for defense against bears. And, I wouldn't use a single action 45 LC for defense against bears in Alaska.

I read a story about a guy in one of my bear books that talked about his first thought as he was being charged by a coastal bear in Alaska. Basically, his first thought was, "a single action revolver isn't the best choice right now."

I have tried to Pocket carry with a P3AT but I dont know i just find it more cumbersome than IWB. I also gave up on it becuase I need pocket for other EDC items and I lose that precious space. If I didn't carry other EDC stuff like Multitool, flashlight, knife, wallet, etc I wouldnt be a big deal but since I do, it is!

Anyone else found this to be true?

OK I need to clarify. I do not pocket carry a 5.5 .45 ruger at a movie, for example. I carry it when there is a chance of a bear encounter in a setting I would prefer not to open carry-like a city bike path. Carrying a 12 gauge is my choice otherwise.
And yes a .45 with 325 LBT's and 24 gr 110 has plenty of smoke for any bear.
I chose a SA because it is a lot of power in a small package.
Regards follow up shots SA vs DA if you ever saw how fast Grizz moves make the first shot count. You are not going to have a second shot in a close in sudden encounter.

Naw ya' don't... You come through loud and clear... ;)

The problem is that most people don't pocket carry in the same context that you do, and think of it as a carry mode for small pistols or snubby revolvers.

What you are doing is unusual, but there is no reason it won't work, and for your intended purpose a Ruger single Action will work as well as anything else. Given the recoil factor, fast and accurate shots aren't going to happen. Double-action won't buy you any advantages.

I do think that you do need to get a holster made up to fit both the gun and pocket, and perhaps suspenders might help support the weight of that cannon. Otherwise you're good to go, even if ya' aren't exactly conventional.

I pocket carry a much smaller, lighter 9x19 and some folks tell me they can't do THAT. It's a Kel Tec P11, 11 rounds of +P on tap, quite accurate. But, I don't have bears around south Texas. If I went fishing in your are, it would NOT be my first choice in bear defense and I might try pocketing my .45 Blackhawk. It's a 4 5/8" and does have the sights, though. I'd really rather carry it on the belt OWB, though, tell ya the truth of it. :D

See, this is what I don't get about guys that insist on carrying a DA .44 mag, especially something like a Mountain Gun, saying they can get the shots off faster. I'm very acclimated to my SAs seeing as my first handgun was a SA 22 40 years ago, but I just don't see the need for DA in a powerful handgun caliber, not if you're going to hit anything with the second shot. The SA is natural, on game at any distance, charging bear, whatever, I wanna shoot SA anyway for the light, crisp trigger. And, I can cock a SA gun with my off thumb quickly as I bring the gun back down on target. It just takes a little practice. Cocking the gun one handed isn't hard, either, just not as fast.

Both good points. I might add I carry it more in fear of moose then bears actually. City moose seem to have no fear of man at all.

If I'm on my own property, just around the house or working in the shop I sometimes will stick a Colt Commander in my back pocket rather than my usual IWB holster or my clip-on P-11.

Off my property it's either the holster or the clip-on.

In cold weather I've been know to carry the P-11 in my coat pocket when out and about, does that count?

I pocket carry pretty much all the time.
Usually it's a Kahr MK9 Elite 98.

I often have a compact 1911 (4" slide) in my right front pocket. JS Holsters made me 4" pocket holster. You need big pockets however. Only about 1/4 of my pants will fully conceal the pistol.
