Found a guy wanting to sell a Pelican Hardigg case, the one that holds 12 or so AR style rifles. I go on a yearly hunting trip with some friends and family and we've been considering getting a Pelican Hardigg case to keep all of our rifles in. It would be easier to keep them all in one case rather than have stacks of cases to keep track of.

I ran across a guy selling one and I'd like to know if this type of case will hold traditional hunting rifles. We'll have a few bolt actions, a Remington 7600, and assorted .22 rifles including a 10-22. It seems as though the longest rifle is 42.6 inches long. Most of the rifles have scopes, so the case needs to accommodate scoped rifles. Looking at pictures I'm not so sure that it can.

The guy listed the exterior dimensions as 44x24x17. I'm not sure if there are multiple similar models of this case, so I'll drop a few pics. No model number, unfortunately. The NSN doesn't show up online, either.

Might be worth a call to determine the internal dimensions….like @mcb says….may weigh a TON….

Edit “
  • Case has a 40.2” (102 cm) internal case height to accept standard barrel lengths when locked into the mag well. Suitable for the M4 16” barrel + flash hider and the M16 20” barrel + flash hider.

Probably not…..

Didn't even cross my mind to give Pelican a call. Thanks for the info. The weight shouldn't be too big of an issue as we'd have several people to carry it, but the dimensions surely will. Would've been cool if they fit. Oh well. Sounds like a good excuse for us all to get some ARs.

Hard to justify the price, though.

…take a typical deer rifle - Remington 700 (call them $600+), a decent scope (call them $300+), any modifications - slings, ammo carrier, trigger work, etc. (call them $200+). All times two (two rifles)….$2200. It gets worse the more expensive the bits and pieces are. I call it cheap insurance at ~$230.

All that said, it depends on how you need to carry / transport the rifles. The back of my vehicle between here and the range - probably soft cases. Any sort of plane or meaningful distance…hard cases….

Absolutely. I used to work at an airport. One night, about 1 am, I was driving down the taxiway in a pickup and saw an object on the tarmac. I stopped and looked. It was a rifle case, broken open, with a rifle part-way out of it. The hinges were broken, but it had done its job of protecting the gun when it had, apparently, fallen off a baggage cart. I handed it over to an airport police officer.

That case looks like it has a hard-molded insert to fit AR rifles, so I think its purpose built.

I have bought a rifle case and three handgun cases from Harbor Freight. I usually avoid much of their stuff, but the gun cases are actually not too bad. I do like to add an extra piece of 1/2” foam under the top and bottom foam inserts of the cases to give them a but more cushion, but that probably isn’t necessary.

The two-rifle case may be one that you could use. I think I paid $115 bucks for it on sale. It holds two scoped rifles. (Mine is hanging on a hook in the garage under my hand truck)

Stay safe.

That seems eerily reminiscent of the older (pre 2010) SKB cases, which were not very good cases, btw-especially compared to a Pelican. Designed in Germany, made in China. But if you're getting good service from yours, then that's good news. They were quite a bit cheaper than the Pelicans.

I think it was the V800 that I really liked.
This is the one I have. I use it to take a couple rifles on my yearly deer hunt, or any other "longish" trip. I've never used it just to go between home and range, i have other single or less bulky cases to use for short local trips. This with two scoped rifles is a lot I cannot imagine a case for 10-12 rifles. You would need two of your good friends to help you lift it or borrow their fork lift.

I love the idea of a rotomolded gun cabinet for deer camp, but that case won’t take scoped rifles.

I’ve used golf club hard cases and soft inside for that purpose. You don’t look as much like an “operator” taking your stuff up to your room at the match hotel but they haul just fine.

That would be a deal breaker for our group, almost all of our rifles are scoped.
