Do I need a Sig P226?

I have a bunch of USPs and Mark 23s.

While they probably make the best silencer hosts, have internals that appeal to my "design philosophy," HK could have done a far better job with the ergonomics...

[Enter cliched fanboi arguments about them being designed with combat in mind and different military criteria and whatnot here...]

...and due to that last point, while I really like them, I don't really play with them that much.

That’s where the epiphany, for me, occurred in the P2000 and HK45C, USP don’t fit me well (yet Glock 21 does) and I’m pretty “meh” about the fancy panels of the VP9 and P30.

But the P2000, oh boy, perfect for me. Slap some Talon Pro grips on and perfect gets more perfecter

The USP comes in for a lot of criticism for its ergonomics and trigger. Some of that is deserved, some is overblown (the ergonomics aren't any worse than a Glock and the trigger isn't the worst DA/SA out there...close though) but the things are so accurate and reliable that none of that matters, at least to me.

I have several 9mm service pistols; one of these days I ought to do a side by side comparison and shooting thread. Thinking about it, though, I'd need to add several more to the collection to really do it justice - 5906, M&P, FNX, P38, and a Luger just for grins.

I own 2 West German-made P226s and a P228 and they are excellent pistols. It is worth noting that the blued finish of the folded steel slides is not particularly durable or rust-resistant. That might be the only thing that these pistols give up to the current US-production guns. Otherwise, the West German guns are superior in every practical way.

I also own an HK USP (variant 1 DA/SA trigger). It’s also an excellent pistol - supremely robust and over-built, though the trigger feel gives up quite a bit to the standard DA/SA SIGs.

My 226 Legion fits my hand better than my 228 with an E2 grip. The Legion is more accurate too! I say yes to the 226:)

Years back I always wanted a 226 but the feel in hand didn’t do it for me. Then I shot one with hogue G10 grips and made a night and day difference in handling. The newer guns with the E2 grips and the legions also feel great, maybe better than with the hogues. Anyway, I picked one up and swapped grips and I don’t see it going away anytime soon if ever. I think almost anyone who tries a 226 may find a need for one. D206C07D-E46F-4FE9-B99A-07B588328970.jpeg
