Do I Really Need a 1911?

Skunk,
You have said yourself numerous times you didn't have good luck with your first 1911. So why push for another one right now. You say you like 9mm, its time to give in and just go to a glock. I gotta try!!!!

Fact is, you don't need a 1911. You've probably got all the guns you "need" already - you don't need that new Beretta either. Truth be told, a single Ruger P90 probably fulfills your "needs".

And if you can't find a 1911 that shoots for you, and the Berettas do, then the Beretta is a better use of your time and money - whether you really need it or not.

Full stop. End of story.

Of course, people may think you are somehow defective if you can't appreciate the merits of a good 1911...

Depends.

If you like collecting or acquiring firearms, I think everybody needs to have a nice basic 1911 in the collection. Like a Springfield Mil Spec, Colt 1991A1 or whatever. IMO, they work very very well and they just ooooozzzz cool nostagia.

If you just want cool uber-tactical weapons that are the best modern technology can give then I would probably say no. You won't be happy with the 1911.

I am pretty diversified in my firearms interests and get the warm fuzzies by a wide range of types of firearms. I get in the mood for an ohh so tactical, 150 years ago, Single Action Army some days while I want to break out the 1911 and Garand other days. Then there are the SIG/HK/Wonderplastic days.

I like guns all different kinds of guns for many different not necessarily tactical or useful reasons. For me a 1911 was a must have. I have guns I don't shoot as well as my serious social hardware that I still love and some I like even more then the ones I shoot the best. It all comes from that intagible quality that I will call the ZEN of SHOOTING.

By the way I just got my first P7M8. It cleaned up real nice and feels just about perfect. So I am not totally un-tactical. :D

Congrats! So is it all you expected it to be?

I'm rethinking this SA Vertec thing. It's like an ugly Billenium without carbon fiber grips. :( I'll score me a Billenium when I leave California.

I haven't gotten to the range yet but so far it is all that and more. I am amazed at how well made it is and after breaking it down and cleaning it I don't see what the big deal is with people complaining they are difficult to clean.

I really think this is one of the best handgun designs I have ever seen, especially for the left handed or ambidextrous shooter. My buddie is a leftie and this thing would be perfect for him.

I have 100 rounds of 9mm just begging to be shot but I don't think I will get to the range for a few days. I might try to sneak out of work a little early one day this week though....shhhh don't tell anybody.
