Wishing everyone a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, please take the time to think of all our brave young men and women who are serving in the military. Also, if you can, do something positive to advance our shooting sports.

A semi-local range is having a 'sponsored' shoot for two LEOs that lost their homes in the Joplin, MO tornado. At least I'll be bringing some donation money over there.

I'll go shooting, but since I already took a couple of people out last week ... this weekend will be about ze wife and me. 8)

Memorial Day is formally celebrated on May 30 and is to honor those guardsmens/marines/sailors/soldiers/airmen that have fallen in combat.
Veterans Day is formally celebrated November 11 for those in uniform that have not fallen in war.
I don't think the folks currently in uniform (including current members) would want to be pushed towards the graves registry folks any sooner than needed.
There are two shooting events this weekend that I can attend and I'll spend as much time supporting those as family obligations will allow as well as working with one of my shooting students on getting her ready for her CCW class.

I think I am going AR shooting this weekend.
I might also be helping out a new female shooter become more familar with her new 9mm he husband helped her pick out.
I personally think the #1 thing we can do to advance the shooting sports is to take people to the range, teach them how to be safe, show them how much fun shooting is and act as responsible gun owners every single day.
Positive reinforcement of positive things.

It's a great idea. Any time we have a little extra time in our toooooo busy lives to add to the shooting sports community we should seize the opportunity. That's a good idea well worth supporting!
The fact that Memorial Day has been misremembered by almost everyone in this country is not your fault. Holidays have been twisted from their original purpose into marketing opportunities and the marketeers have twisted that even further to remove any solemnity so that the holiday is as "happy" as possible. Happy holidays sell more junk to people.
It's as effective a form of propaganda as any ever devised and it changes all our memory/view of those holidays.
I'll put a flag on my dad's grave for Veteran's Day in November since he survived WWII (lucky for me), but Monday I'll head out to the old Civil War cemetery for the men that fought and died here.

I try to get a new shooter, or a few, to the range on patriotic holidays. It just seems like the right thing to do. This time it was a couple from our church group at the bowling pin shoot on Saturday. Great event for beginners, we burned through 500+ rounds and they had a great time.

I love taking someone who's never really shot a real gun and handing them my 92D with a trigger job from a guy who loves the Beretta.
