Do the Sig 228 and 229 use the same magazines?

I have found a NIB Sig 228 with box, papers, and tags still on the gun. It is not a factory refurb.

Since the 228 is discontinued, how is the mag supply for it? Will it use 229 magazines?

Also, what would you consider a decent price for it?

Yes, the mags are the same.

Prices for the 228 are all over the map these days. What're they asking?

I have NEVER seen a 228 priced that high, but they are excellent guns. Mec-Gar mags are the way to go w/ these as you pick up two more rounds over the stock Sig mags (Mec-Gar makes the "factory" Sig mags). I own one and love it, if you can stand to pay that kind of money--go for it.

check out CDNN, I believe that they had some used ones a whold bunch cheaper. There are lots of mags out there also.

I sold a couple very lightly used ones last year in the 525 range, 820 seems way high, I think Ala Dan is pretty close at 650.

Finding mags should not be a problem.

I paid $550 two years ago for one NIB.
Last week I paid $750 for one used, but that one included 7 13 round mags, NP3 treatment on slide and small parts (They look really nice in tutone.), action job, and short trigger already installed. Oh, it has nights. And quite a few extras, like they included the factory trigger, and the old standard grip screws. The new ones are hex grip screws, which are more reliable because you can tighten them down with a little more 'feel'. I also bought a used set of CT grips for $160, bringing the total to over $900, but I got my money's worth, in my opinion.

No way I'd pay $820 for one bone stock unless I were gonna stow it away in a safe for 20+ years.
If you're looking for a shooter, look for another one, they're out there.
SIGs are nice guns, but for that price, I'd be looking at H&Ks. Come to think of it, I paid $650 for a used H&K P7 not that long ago, now look at what they want for them. I should have bought a dozen!

I tried the the p228 on my old p229 worked fine
-The 40 cal mags work on 9 also you can get a few more rounds in there and they work fine no problems

Check with KY Imports. I have personally found them a great company to deal with. They have a 228 listed new in box for $599. I have also bought from CDNN and find them to be another great company to deal with. I would suggest downloading CDNNs latest catalog from their website and seeing what they have in stock. They usually have some great prices on new and factory reconditioned guns.
