Why would law makers fear the NRA? Would you fear the candyman?

Votes are bought,sold, and traded every day there. The NRA has been there long enough to know who to buy and at what price. So long as they(the NRA) maintain the give and take coarse everything will balance out at the end. In other words it would be self defeating for the NRA to always win.

How can anyone who is into guns and the 2nd Amendment not belong? If you aren't an NRA member you are part of the problem. That problem is apathy;don't let it happen to you with regards to your gun rights.

I actually send a lot of letters and emails plus do phone calls to the elected great ones of Illinois. Just sending a few bucks to the NRA does not make one a super pro 2nd Amendment warrior.

If every NRA member did what I do we would have positive changes by the end of this year.

+1+ LBTRS -- the clown who ran my "major corporation" into the ground was paid >$30M/year, while our stock and retirement accounts went to hell.

Wayne is STAND-UP and deserves every penny and then some. A man like him would be making 5-6X his salary in the private sector and we'd be the losers if we didn't have him.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, here on the High Road, but I’m not a member of the National Rifle Association. I have sent anonymous donations, but membership, no.

I'm not a joiner; never have been. I suppose it stems from not wanting to be told how to think and feel.

A gun club that I belonged to (had to be a current member to shoot in leagues) made it mandatory that club members be an NRA member. Coincidentally, I had my first daughter the same month my membership under new NRA-mandatory rules was up for renewal, and I haven’t shot competitively since. (Stay at home wife, additional children, $$$).

It needs to happen, me joining the NRA, that is. My dad's a member, and he's been known to ride me on this.

I’m at that age where I’ve begun to recognize my father’s wisdom.

San Antonio paper (6 Apr 07) posted a Pew Research Center poll on people with a favorable opinion of NRA:
Overall: 52%
Men: 62%
Women: 42%
Republicans: 72%
Democrats: 40%
Whites: 54%
Blacks: 42%

Bet those numbers are way higher in my area.

If you enjoy the shooting sports and have or want to get a firearm you should belong. They are the only ones truly looking out for us. There are others out there but they don't have the membership and political power. Without the NRA we would be another Canada,UK or Austrailia.

This thread really should be stickied. The more people that are members, the more leverage they have for us. I'm thinking that if everyone that owned a gun was member of either the NRA or GOA polititians wouldn't dare question our right to bear arms.

I am a member and I plan on remaining a member, but I have some issues with the NRA, chief of which is that I am not sure how effective they will be if the Democrats take control of both houses and the white house.
