I have sort of a bad habit. When I come across a design I really like whether it be guns or knives, I want to be able to hold onto that design into the future and wouldn't mind having a new one for later in life. Earlier this year I bought a duplicate of a $260 knife I reeeeeeaaaaallllllyyyyy work well with. I oiled it, put it back in the box, locked it away, and plan to pull it out of the box when I retire one day.
Well now a carbon fiber version of an all Ti nice production knife I already own and love has become available to me. The one I have is only coming up on a year old and it does get frequent light duty usage. But it's a 20CV blade so it's still nice and sharp, and since I carry a variety of knives, that particular one only gets carried once or twice a week. Point being, I could resell it LNIB despite regular usage. However I know I want to keep it and have always found myself thinking it'd be nice to have a carbon fiber version.
Starting bid is $250 and it's listed as new. Given that the one I own will likely be treated lightly and kept in excellent shape, and as a result last me the rest of my life, am I just being an idiot picking up a duplicate for the future even though it is a different variant?
Do you buy duplicates? I mean I'm not going to worry about usage wear and tear and character. They're my knives. Maybe this is just silly.
Thoughts?
