Do you carry All the time.

I was kind of ambivalent about carrying until the recent riots and demonstrations started.

I visualized a scene from a long ago riot where a truck driver minding his own business, I think his name was Reginald Denny, was pulled from his cab and beaten senseless, with cinder blocks broken over his head.

His crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time, nothing more.

I don’t intend to be a helpless victim, and now consistently carry.

Actually, that's not true. Reginald Denny's crime was being the wrong color, proven by the fact that similar attacks were not suffered by darker-skinned drivers that same day in the same place. Given the current racial narrative, expect this to be 10X worse today.

Denny's unwillingness to use his 50 ton machine's ability to go forward coupled with his (I assume) inability to lock his door guaranteed his victimization. Some people will be victims because they cannot do what's necessary in that moment to prevent it. He was one of those.

And if a person is caught up in it, his firearm would be unlikely to be of much help.

And you are already defeated. I've seen that mentality before, in actual face-to-face verbal discussion. It's a sort of defeatism.......but not trying is a great way to avoid disappointment.

If one watches the video, the sizeable mob chasing Kyle Rittenhouse vanished the moment he started shooting his attackers. The video shows that clearly. His problems came from a complicit state (of government).

The next post that attempts to take the thread into a political discussion will be the last post in this thread. Everyone needs to remember that in ST&T we discuss the nuts and bolts of self defense, politics don’t figure into it.

Whoops! (In Cary Grant's voice). New here, sorry. Duly noted.

With the proliferation of concealed carry, criminals can increasingly assume that all their victims are armed. This is dangerous, then, because the "craziest of the crazies" will come to the fore among the criminals. You'll have "100 lb. chicks" being shot because of a mere suspicion that they might be armed.

On average 6.53% of adults have a conceal carry permit. I think it goes without saying that many people who have permits don't carry all the time, there's several in this very thread and we can assume the percentage of "always carrying" is much higher on THR than the general populartion. So let's say 5% of people are carrying at any time on the street. And like Gunny alluded to, a criminal is going to give an potential victim the look over before approaching to pick out the easiest target who's not paying attention to their surroundings, looks easy, is distracted, and is less likely to be carrying a concealed weapon. They're not walking up to the guy who's giving off the "cop vibe" because they ARE suspicious he might be armed.

A proliferation of lawful concealed carriers at gun forums, yes indeed. But like bassjam mentions, not so much if looking at licensed carriers here in Texas.

29+ million folks in Texas.

1.6+ million licensees in Texas, so a "proliferation" of about 5.5%.

from https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/handgun-licensing/reports-statistics-1

Considering how many folks I know with licenses that don't carry on a regular basis, you might say that 1.6 million figure may be cut substantially on any given day. If so, the number of licensees actually carrying a gun could be 4% of that 29+ million. Some licensees I've known really seem to consider an LTC* like a membership card to a club they want to belong to, but they don't partake in the club's benefits.

I've only been licensed since 2008 and the numbers of licensees in this state since that time has always been surprisingly low to pro-gunners and anti-gunners alike.

Of course, constitutional carry is almost here in Texas. So, lets say the initial bump doubles the lawful concealed carry going on right now. That bump will fade to a large degree once the "new" wears off and people deal with the additional prohibitive signage that will make carrying an extra hassle for the law abiding.

Only place I don't carry is the gym. It's not the "lifetime ban if caught" that prevents me, it's the flimsy lockers, no privacy in the locker room, and not sure how I could hide it swimming or in gym clothes (although I could pull that one off if I really tried).

A couple of members (friends) have seen my empty holster in my gym bag though.

Just wondering how many actually carry a gun on them at all times. Or just some times. Or just in the car. I've tried but it's just to aggravating. IWB, OWB or just in my pocket. My 642-1 is only like 14oz or so and is about as small carry as I can find. Except some derringers which I don't care for. But that's my question. Do you carry full time? Or just?

Yes.

I don't like anyone to know whether or not I am armed until a situation arises that might or might not cause me to defend myself or others... even on boards like this one.

It's just too easy to identify a person from their online data... .

I carry most of the time. However, I haven't figured out a way to carry a Glock 19 on a track pants or shorts. So when I'm wearing that I generally don't carry. Not a good excuse I know...

Pants on, gun on here. All my waking hours. My minimum gun is a Glock 43, IWB kydex.

It’s like a seatbelt. I only wear one when I know that I am going to have an accident. So… guess right or always have one.

It's 10:35 AM and I'm sitting at my loading bench laptop.
Fred is still dumping on us.
I'm sitting here with a Kahr P9 Covert on my belt. It's no longer uncomfortable.
I started carrying in about 2000 ( glock 32 ). This Kahr since 2004.
I would have to say I carry most of the time IWB but also have a pocket holster and an ankle rig depending on whats going on. OWB for a few pistols ( range guns).

Behold, the holster and carry system of your dreams. Or nightmares I suppose, if you don't really want to carry while working out. This is what I use when I can't carry on my belt or need to keep my shirt tucked in. It works really well for my Shield .45 inside my waistband.

Used to use something like that when running but by Galco.

Horribly uncomfortable but got the job done.

Lockdowns pushed me to get a workout room setup in my basement so my carry gun gets to sit on the step by my water bottle while I workout now, much easier.

Yeah, I had one similar to the Galco one. The Crossbreed belly band is far better than any other one I have tried. It wraps a layer of elastic material around the outside of the holster, actually holding the gun close to my body, and it has a real (fitted kydex) holster that attaches via velcro.

Just last week I was running a little late and my best friend got impatient, so we left in kind of a hurry. We went for our morning walk and I had forgotten my gun, already the second time in the last three years.

Even though it's less embarrassing than the open fly, it just should not happen!

We made it back home safely, though. Somehow people walk around my buddy.

Tons of micro pistols on the market that will not pull your pants/shorts and slip into your pockets easily.
